Adult focus sheet ELG – Musical rhyme This is an adult led activity targeted towards meeting ELGs in exploring and using media and materials. As each group completes the activity plot their names in the table below, when complete a whole class overview will show any key next steps needed to improve further development. www.earlybirdyeducation.com ELG EAD: Exploring using media and materials. Adult focus sheet- Musical rhyme Week beg: EAD, PSE Adult: Learning Intention: Success Criteria: *To make music. * To experiment ways of changing sound. *To experiment with sound. *To work collaboratively. Differentiation: To create music to a song. In mixed ability groups of 3-4 children. Activity: Have a variety of musical instruments for the children to explore. Explain that we are going to make our own music to a well-known nursery rhyme. Allow the children to choose their rhyme and then discuss what kind of sounds they will need for their music e.g. loud or soft sounds, fast or slow sounds. What sounds might we need hear with this rhyme e.g. twinkling for the stars? Bang for the humpty dumpty’s fall? Let the children work collaboratively to decide which instruments they will use. Now sing the song with the instruments, remember to pause at important pats where there may be emphasis on sounds. Remind the children of the beat and rhythm. KEY NOTES: Demonstrate how to use instruments correctly and play them to a rhythm or beat. RESOURCES: Variety of musical instruments.
