Science questions 1-7 the solar system
1. A. Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Neptune, Uranus, Saturn and then Jupiter.
B. Closest to most distant from the Sun
C. Jupiter, Neptune, Saturn, Earth, Uranus, Venus, Mars and Murcury.
2. Name the planets known as the gas giants. Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and
Neptune.
3. Name three spacecraft, and at least one planet visited by each. The Mars
phoenix mission it was on Mars,
4. Name the body in the solar system that lost its status as a planet in 2006.
Pluto lost its status as a planet as it became too small making it a dwarf
planet.
B Explain why it is now regarded as a dwarf planet. Because all the
normal planets have enough gravitational pull to orbit, whilst Pluto has to
insufficient gravitation pull.
C Name two other dwarf planets. The two other planets are Ceres and
Eris, they are both asteroids that orbits the sun three times more than
Pluto.
5. Clarify what is meant by a terrestrial planet. A planet that can be seen
without a telescope, this is Mercury, Venus, Earth and
Mars, they are
classed as ancient planets because the Greeks made them Gods.
6. Explain why there is less information available about the outer planets
than the inner ones. Because we can see easier through out telescopes, to
close planets and we have been and the moon and we have rovers on
planets like Mars. While it is harder to see planets from really far away
and we cannot take rovers over there easily.
7. Identify the following planets by unscrambling their names:
A PETENUN
: Neptune
B SUNEV
: Venus
C ARMS : Mars
D RATUNS: Saturn
E ITUPREJ: Jupiter
F SUNRAU: Uranus
G TEHAR
: Earth
H RECYRUM: Mercury
