Vision 20/20 Primary Eye Care Group Terms of Reference The committee is one of the standing committees of Vision 20/20 and is responsible to the organisation and will abide by its ordinances. Purpose The Committee exists to provide a multidisciplinary forum for advocacy and guidance for the provision of primary eye care health in England. Specifically the committee is responsible for: To define those conditions that can be managed in the primary eye care settings in England To define standards of care that should be met in delivering primary eye care Production and updating of guidance documents about diagnosis and treatment of conditions that can be managed in primary eye care settings in England Review and updating of General Optical Council guidance for independent prescribing for optometrists Liaison with the professional bodies of eye care professionals about delivery of primary eye care To provide benchmarks for training and assessment for eye care professionals providing primary eye care. The Chair The Chair of the Committee shall be elected by the members of the committee. The term of office is three years which is not renewable. Membership: The Chair. Three representatives from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists including the Chair of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Ocular Public Health Group Two members of the British Council of Optometry or One member of the Federation of Dispensing Optometrists Two representatives of the General Optical Council , one of whom will be a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and one a member of the British Council of Optometry. One member of the Royal College of General Practitioners One Member of the Royal College of Nursing One Member of the College of Orthoptists Lay representative Chief Executive of Vision 20/20 Meetings There will normally be two meetings a year. Reporting The Committee will report to the Executive Committee of Vision 20/20. Individual members may report on the activity of the group including the various colleges and agencies. Conflict of Interest When the interests of a member of the Committee appears to conflict with that of Vision 20/20 that conflict must be declared. Franks/Wormald Oct 2007
