When operating electronic components for lighting systems, there
is often a need to provide additional protection against voltage
surges.
These voltage surges, also known as mains transients, can have
very different causes. They can be created when switching inductive loads, by atmospheric discharges such as lightning striking the
mains or the ground or by voltages induced through neighbouring
cables when using leading-edge phase-cutting controllers.
The protective modules reduce overvoltages at the connection terminals of electronic components. Any residual voltage is then reduced
to an appropriate protective level in relation to the discharge current.
Vossloh-Schwabe's SP3/230/10K and SPC 230/10K protection
modules guarantee very fast energy discharge.

Should the luminaire protection module be affected by a voltage
overload, the connected power network of the lighting system
will cut-out. This cut-out function makes it easier to detect the end
of the protective module's service life, enables fast replacement
by maintenance staff and provides reliable protection for lighting
components.
