Agent for increasing the octane number of a gasoline automobile fuel
A new type of additives to gasoline and alcohol – gasoline blends is
developed that provides a significant rise in the octane index and phase
homogeneity of fuel composition over a wide range of temperature, when
combined with alcohols.
The additives are the derivatives of polyoles (ethylene glycol, glycerol,
pentaerythritol, monosaccharides as well as mixtures thereof) produced mainly
from renewable natural sources and farm wastes, modified by transforming them
into cyclic ketals via condensation with commercially available carbonyl
compounds ((lower aldehydes and ketones, mainly acetone).
At present, convenient synthesis methods are developed tested with special
pilot unit.
The additives are not toxic and environmentally friendly in contrast to wellknown methyl tert-butyl ether.
