Configuring Your PC Web Browser to Use the University of
Otago Staff Proxy Services – Internet Explorer and Mozilla
Firefox
This is required for access from off-campus access to University of Otago Library
databases for those who are not University of Otago staff (i.e., not in the University’s
HR system), Clinical Lecturers (Medical Schools) or students. Before you can access
these resources from off-campus, you need to have the access request approved. You
also need a University username and password. This requires the completion of the
External Username/ID Card application form (see the ITS HelpDesk web site –
http://www.otago.ac.nz/helpdesk).
Once your access has been approved and you have been notified of your details
(University username and password), use the following information to set up your
access from off-campus.
The proxy server information below is used for any web browser (e.g., Internet
Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Netscape, etc.) and for either dial-up (modem) or
LAN/broadband connections. It differs only in which campus you are associated with.
Staff associated with the University of Otago Stadium Centre in Wellington, and the
Auckland Centre should use the configuration settings for the Dunedin campus.

The port information is 3128 for all locations.
Note: Don’t leave your web browser configured to use the staff proxy for your normal
internet access — turn it on only when you want to access those Library resources
which are restricted to authorised University-only access and then turn it off
afterwards.
If you have any problems, please contact the ITS HelpDesk (phone: 0800 479-888 or
+64 3 479-8888).
Assistance in using the Library electronic resources should be directed to the Library.
See the Library web page for the appropriate contact (http://www.otago.ac.nz/library).
This document is available from the Library web site.
