What is the primary purpose of this POC? Examples include:

What network requirements does this POC have? Examples include:

f. What are the external network bandwidth requirements? NOTE: The DSEL POC network
connectivity is for remote access and transfer of small (<2GB) files to / from the lab.
Production workloads and remote replication to customer / cloud providers is not
supported over DSEL links.
Storage design
a. Will this system use shared or local attached storage?
b. What protocol will be used to connect to the storage (if non-local)? FC or iSCSI
c. What protocol connection speed is required (e.g. 8Gb FC, 16Gb FC, 10Gb iSCSI, 12Gb
SAS, etc.)
d. What are the IOPs requirements for the storage?

e. Is the test evaluating the storage performance itself or can DSEL implement storage as
required to meet POC success criteria? NOTE: This may involve use of flash storage tiers,
storage virtualization providers and storage accelerator products.
f. What is usable storage capacity required for the solution?
i. Is this a per node or shared storage statement?
ii. What size drives are required to host the OS? Swap? Application Binaries? Data?
g. What are the availability requirements of the storage? (eg – RAID Levels, redundancy
factor, etc)
h. Are any advanced storage features required? (e.g. - tiering, data migration, deduplication, compression, replication)

any confidential information supplied by customers. For those POCs requiring the use of
confidential information, DSE team defers to onsite POC.
f. Are any remote clients required to generate workload?
i. Are these remote client systems included in the POC hardware request?
ii. Do these remote clients have to be physical systems?
iii. What connectivity to the test systems is required?
7. Test harness information
a. Does the POC require any test tools? Examples include:
i. Synthetic load generators
ii. Standard benchmark suites
iii. Applications for monitoring latency, responsiveness, etc.
b. If test tools are required, who will provide:
i. Test tools
ii. Expertise on test tools
c. Does the POC require injecting errors into the system or causing hardware errors in
order to measure system resiliency or alerting? NOTE: The lab will not perform any
activities on its HW which may cause damage to its systems.
d. How will outputs from test harness be measured / captured?

8. Success Criteria
a. What baselines are this POC being compared against?
b. What difference delta is/are required to consider the test successful?
i. Are these subjective or objective?
ii. Please list the success criteria. Success criteria fall intro a few broad categories.
Such categories include:
1. Usability – please provide concrete list of items being rated and rating
methodology (i.e. – binary success / failure or scaling factor from 1-5)
2. Performance – please provide baseline values and values indicating
success. Validate that measurement and judgment are using same
values (e.g. – measuring bandwidth in Gbps not IOPs). Common
performance measurement criteria include GB/s, Gb/s, IOPs, MHz,
Transactions / sec (tps), latency in ms and runtime.
3. Scalability / Capacity – please provide scaling factor being measured (eg
# of VM/ core, total # of VMs / system, etc)
4. Functionality – please provide list of features being evaluated
c. Does the test measurement accurately capture the data required for measuring
success?
