Walking Sticks
HabitatWalking sticks live all over the world,
especially in woodland or rain forest areas.
They spend their time in trees There color
and shape help them to blend in with their
surroundings.
FoodWalkng sticks eat at night when enemies
cannot see them. They use their antennae to
feel around in the dark. Walking sticks eat
plants and leaves.
Life CycleWalking sticks lay eggs on leaves and
plants. Young walking sticks hatch from
eggs. They are called nymphs. They grow and
molt until they become adults.
BodyWalking sticks are insects. They are 1 to 12
inches long. Their skinny bodies are grown
or green. They look like twigs.
Fun FactA walking stick can shed a leg if an enemy
grabs it. Some walking sticks have leaf-like
body parts. The eggs of a walking stick look
like seeds so enemies wont eat them.
