English Study Guide: Conjunctions (NOTE! English tests build
on each other- there WILL be other parts of speech already
studied included on the test.)
Part One: Definitions:
Conjunction- A word that connects words or groups of words (phrases
or clauses). Conjunction are color coded brown
Verb- A word that shows action or a state of being. Verbs are color
coded orange.
Noun- A person, place, or thing. Nouns are color coded yellow.
Subject- Who or what the sentence is about. Subject is highlighted
yellow.
Predicate- What the subject is or does.
Part Two: Identification:
-Be able to identify the most common conjunctions with the acronym
“Fanboys”. (For (when used like because), And, Nor, But (or Because),
Or, Yet, So)
-Be able to identify forms of the verb “To Be”
-Be able to identify nouns, verbs, conjunctions, subject and predicate in
a sentence.
-Be able to write a sentence with specified parts of speech, either
completely defined (“Noun, conjunction, noun, verb” could result in
“Kara and Lauren danced.”) or writing a sentence properly using each
conjunction.
