I noticed one of the focus issues is "the growing interface between science, its actual and potential discoveries and faith traditions, especially in regard to ethical dilemmas". Australia is an increasingly secularised society. It is therefore misleading to say there is a 'growing interface' between scientific research and religion in Australia. If there is a growing number of Australians who feel uncomfortable about certain research methods such as creating human embyos for scientific research or testing medicines on people in the third world, then this number cannot consist entirely of people belonging to 'faith traditions'. It is also dangerous to label all moral objections as 'religious objections', with the implication that any ethical boundaries are unscientific or opposed to science. There are uses of science and technology that are morally wrong, such as using computer technology to break into somebody's bank account or to covertly distribute child pornography. 1
