Job Purpose
To manage the network and deliver third level support for IT systems and services to staff and
students across the Collegiate Education Trust, based at Warrington Collegiate.

Key Responsibilities

To deliver support for IT systems and services to staff and students across the
Collegiate Education Trust, based at Warrington Collegiate.

To provide third level support, within the IT Services team, helping to manage the
team's workload, and proactively prioritising and managing issues to successful
conclusion.

To be responsible for the installation of any new servers, the setup and management
of users, services, licensing, patching and upgrades.

To support and troubleshoot through to problem resolution any hardware and
software issues.

To manage, benchmark and optimise the network (LAN and WAN), routers, switches
and cabling.

To manage network security and disaster recovery including backups and anti-virus.

To carry out preventative maintenance and both cost and propose new network
improvements.

To establish, maintain and develop professional working relationships with colleagues.

Follow all agreed Quality Assurance Mechanisms operating within the College and
contribute generally to the establishment and development of a quality provision/service.

The College operates a Performance Management Review Scheme through which
objectives and development plans are agreed. All staff are required to participate in the
scheme and, with their manager, are jointly responsible for the completion of agreed
actions.


PERSON SPECIFICATION
IT NETWORK MANAGER









A relevant degree and/or appropriate professional qualifications are essential.
Membership of a professional body such as the British Computer Society (MBCS)
would be advantageous.
Excellent knowledge of Cisco networking and TCP/IP networking generally.
Excellent knowledge of Windows Server software.
Experience designing, installing & administering networks and systems.
A very sound knowledge of MS Operating Systems and Services
Ability to communicate ideas and details effectively to people at all levels and with
varying degrees of technical knowledge
Able to self-educate and willingness to learn new things
Able to work in a structured, logical manner, liaising with external providers where
appropriate.
Essential Technical Knowledge








VMware vSphere(ESXi) VMware Horizon View VDI
Microsoft - Windows Server all supported versions, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft
Internet Information Server.
Active Directory, Group Policies and WSUS setup and maintenance
Strong knowledge of reading various log files and using them to quickly and accurately
troubleshoot issues
Routers/Switches, Network equipment & software:
o CLI & GUI network device administration, including configuration,
troubleshooting and change documentation
o Good understand of VLANs and VLAN configuration, L3 and L2 switching as
well as L3 routing, syslogs and interpreting the results
Experience of configuring and maintaining centralised storage systems and running
them in a high available environment
Great understanding of the importance of data security and mitigation techniques,
including edge protection, anti-virus and social engineering
Desktop applications and operating systems such as Windows 7, Windows 10, outlook
and other Microsoft Office Applications
Desirable Technical Knowledge or Experience




Cisco Call manager IP Telephony and or Microsoft Lync/Skype for Business
Microsoft SQL Server management and SQL scripting
IP CCTV installation and troubleshooting
Installation and management of Meru Wi-Fi or similar corporate Wi-Fi systems
