Annual Prostate Cancer Conference Hosts
Prostate Imaging Discussion
Dr. Robert Princenthal will discuss benefits of and developments in MRI prostate imaging
at annual conference hosted by the Prostate Cancer Research Institute.
Robert Princenthal, M.D., president of Rolling Oaks Radiology and medical co-director of the RadNet
Prostate MRI Program, is scheduled to speak at the 2014 Prostate Cancer Conference. Hosted by the
Prostate Cancer Research Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of prostate
cancer research, the annual Prostate Cancer Conference provides support and learning opportunities for
prostate cancer patients, their families and their physicians.
Prostate Cancer Affects Millions of Men
Prostate cancer provides cause for serious concern. The American Cancer Society estimates that two
million American men are currently living with prostate cancer and that 30,000 will die from prostate
cancer in 2014. For many years, diagnostic tools used in the detection of prostate cancer were
inadequate. However, multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has emerged as a superior
option when compared with long-time standards of care.
Supporting Improvements to Prostate Imaging
Dr. Princenthal, along with RadNet Prostate MRI Medical Co-Director Dr. Martin Cohen, has performed
more than 4,000 multiparametric MRI exams. He has enthusiastically supported efforts to improve
prostate imaging capabilities in clinical settings. This includes working with medical device
manufacturers to develop and validate MRI procedures capable of accurately detecting prostate cancer.
In 2008, Dr. Princenthal worked with Invivo Corporation to establish Rolling Oaks Radiology in Thousand
Oaks, California as a beta site for testing its DynaCAD and DynaTRIM products, the software and
hardware that make targeted MRI-TRUS fusion biopsy possible. RadNet has since expanded
multiparametric MRI services to six centers, each with advanced 3T MRI technology that enhance
prostate imaging capabilities. This background will inform Dr. Princenthal’s Prostate Cancer Conference
presentation, which will focus on new data showing the potential for MRI in prostate cancer diagnosis.
“Traditional prostate imaging procedures have been inadequate when it comes to accurately identifying
and locating tumors in the prostate gland,” said Dr. Princenthal. “With MRI, we can now clearly produce
images of prostate abnormalities and guide biopsy needles, which reduces the number of needles
necessary and the associated risk.”
The 2014 Prostate Cancer Conference will be held September 5-7 at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott
Hotel. Dr. Princenthal is scheduled to present on MRI and prostate imaging on Friday, September 5 at
