Welcome to World History. In this class we will explore the world’s history from
humanity’s beginnings through modern times. To do this we will use individual and
group projects, research, current events exercises, in-class lectures and activities.
Classroom Operating Procedures & Expectations
Be Courteous
 Be prompt.
 Don’t interrupt.
 Respect others and their property.
 Use appropriate language and voice volume.
 Address others with courtesy.
Be Prepared
 Bring your notebook and materials every day.
 Complete assigned readings and homework before class.
 Study before tests.
Be Responsible
 Take responsibility for your actions (or in-actions).
 Follow directions the first time they are given.
 Follow school and district policies.
 After an absence (or before a scheduled absence), ask or e-mail me at
[email protected] about notes, assignments, or coursework missed.
Exhibit Classroom Decorum
 Enter and exit the classroom properly.
 Be in your assigned seat when the bell rings.
 Exit the classroom only after you have been dismissed.
Course Policies
Grades:
 All assignments are weighted equally.
 Assignments turned in without a name will have 10 points reduced (once we
figure out who it belongs to).
 Assignments turned in 1 day late will have 10 points reduced.
 Assignments turned in 2 days late will have 20 points reduced.
 Assignments turned in 3 days late will have 30 points reduced.
 Assignments turned in more than 3 days late will have 30 points reduced and you
will need to attend tutoring in order to turn it in.
 You will have a bell-ringer assignment at the beginning of class most days.
 We will also usually have 10 minutes of Sustained Silent Reading from the
textbook at the beginning of class, followed by a short assignment on the reading.
 Turn in the bell-ringers and the readings assignments at the end of the week for a
weekly participation grade.
Discipline
 Please refer to the EPISD Student Code of Conduct and EPHS Student Handbook
Hall passes
 To leave the room to go to the bathroom or any other purpose you must get my
permission and you must have the orange pass.
 Don't be out of the room any longer than you need to be.
 If you're out of the room longer than 5 minutes you will lose bathroom privileges.
World History Notebook and Textbook
 Each student will maintain a history notebook.
 The purpose of the notebook is to collect the student’s work product during each
unit study so that when it is time to prepare for an exam all the materials are
available to them.
 A 3-ring binder is recommended.
 Notes taken during classroom instruction will be maintained and accounted for in
the history notebook.
 Bring your textbook every day.
