Domenico Scarlatti (1685 - 1757) was an Italian composer who worked in Rome and Madrid; he was a peer of the famous Johann Sebastian Bach. He wrote in a lighter, sunnier style than the German cantor’s. One can hear early glimpses of Mozart in his music. Left an impressive oeuvre, including the stunning 555 harpsichord sonatas. Marcin Masecki, 1982, pianist, composer, music activist, winner of many prizes, among them First Prize at the Moscow International Jazz Piano Competition 2005 and the Grand Prix and Prize for Best Soloist at Jazz Hoeilaart"98 in Brussels. A versatile artist with a discography of over 20 titles, Masecki participates in a wide variety of projects. Apart from performing solo and leading his own sextet Profesjonalizm, he is a member of the international band ParisTetris (www.paristetris.com). He is also Music Director and of the first edition of WOR Warsaw Orchestra of Recreation - a project which unities Warsaw’s musicians from different backgrounds and features a rotating leadership with a different member for every successive edition. Masecki has more recently become a composer in great demand - this year three commissioned compositions will be premiered: two for brass orchestra (a commission from “Kody” Festival in Lublin and a rearrangement of Handel’s “Water Music” for Festival organized by the Polish Composers Union) and one for piano and ten cellos (a commission from the Lutosławski International Cello Competition 2013 in Warsaw). His parallel passion is classical music which he performs regularly in venues not usually associated it. His recitals often feature unconventional details; in a recent program of Beethoven's three last piano sonatas he played wearing both ear stoppers and anti-noise headphones, so as to perform from the perspective of the deaf composer. Recently in London he has performed a critically acclaimed deconstruction of Scarlatti’s sonatas (the concert can be seen on www.hibrowtv.com). His latest CD release is Bach's "Art of the Fugue" recorded on a cassette walkman. Since 2006 he is a member of the independent record label Lado ABC, which records and promotes Polish alternative music, especially that from Warsaw. Masecki has worked with a long list of artists - among others Tomasz Stańko, Zbigniew Namysłowski, Michał Urbaniak, Pink Freud, Innocent Sorcerers, Macio Moretti, Ziv Ravitz, and Natalia Korczakowska. He has also composed music for theatre plays in Warsaw's Teatr Rozmaitości (“Solaris”, 2010) and in Wroclaw's Teatr Współczesny (“Pasażerka”, 2009). Masecki lives in Warsaw and Buenos Aires.
