Cells
How does a single cell become a person made of
many cells?
cell The basic unit of life
There are many different kinds of cells. Each cell
has its own function or job.
Types of Cells
Even though cells perform different jobs or functions
in the body, they all have the same structure.
Muscle
Cells
Nerve Cells
Red Blood Cells
Cells Continued….
Bone Cells: calcify to become bones.
Muscle Cells: form muscles
Nerve Cells: send messages
Red Blood Cells: carry oxygen
White Blood Cells: kill germs
Remember these are just a few examples!!
The Skeletal System
The skeletal system protects your internal organs
and helps you move.
skeletal system The framework of bones and other
tissues that supports the body
The 206 bones in your body make blood cells and
store calcium and other minerals.
The Skeletal System
Some joints allow bones to move, while others never
move but protect organs instead.
joints The places where two or more bones meet
The Skeletal System
Three types of connecting tissue are tendons,
ligaments, and cartilage.
tendons A type of connecting tissue that joins muscles to
bones and muscles to muscles
ligaments A type of connecting tissue that holds bones to
other bones at the joint
cartilage A strong, flexible tissue that allows joints to move
easily, cushions bones, and supports soft tissues
Ligaments and Tendons
The Muscular System
The three main types of muscles that make up the
muscular system are skeletal, smooth, and cardiac.
muscular system Tissues that move parts of the body
and control the organs
The muscular system provides the power and
flexibility you need to move.
Caring for Your Bones and Muscles
Tips for Caring for Your Bones and Muscles
Do flexibility exercises.
Choose physical activities that strengthen your muscles and bones.
Choose physical activities that build cardiovascular strength.
Practice proper posture.
When you lift heavy objects, keep your back straight and bend your knees.
Eat healthful foods to provide bones and muscles the nutrients they need.
