Triangle Unit Daily Lessons
Pre-AP Geometry 2016
Tues-Wed, November 15-16, 2016
Objective: I can discover and prove the Triangle Sum Theorem and Third Angle Theorem. I can
define parts of and interpret relationships in isosceles triangles.
 Test make-ups and other issues related to test
 Investigation 4.1.1 – Triangle Sum investigation with cut out and pasted triangle; figure
out conjecture
 Index Card – justify or explain why the angles in a triangle add up to 180 degrees from
sketch with parallel lines.
 Share student work on screen.
 Class proof in 2 columns – Triangle Sum Theorem
 Discussion – then why is Third Angle Theorem true (so proved by deductive explanation)
 Investigation 4.2.1 – Base angles of an isosceles triangle are congruent.
 Investigation 4.2.2 – two congruent angles make a triangle isosceles.
 Preview of level 3 DOK homework
 HW #6 – pp 201-2:2-8, pp 206-7: 1-8
 Write up Theorems and Conjectures 17-20 (or take a photo to do later) and definitions of
parts of isosceles triangle from p 204.
Thursday-Friday, November 17-18
Objective: I can discover and apply the Triangle Inequality conjectures. I can prove that an
exterior angle of a triangle is equal to the sum of its two remote interior angles.
 Partner share/argue/ and add to HW #6 (add #9 on p 202)
 Finish writing up C-17-20 from last block.
 Take a grade on HW #6 – 4 pts
 Answers to HW/ conjectures/ questions
 Demonstration and conclusion: will these sticks make a triangle? Triangle inequality
conjecture #21.
 Investigation 4.3 #2 at the top of p 215. The longest side of a triangle is always
opposite the largest angle.
 Fill-in-the-blank proof: An exterior angle of a triangle is equal to the sum of its two
remote interior angles. (Definition of exterior, adjacent interior, and remote interior
angles also on board.)
 Write up C-21-23 and definition sketch.
 In class practice: pp 216-7:1-15
 View tests. Make-up issues.
Monday-Tuesday, November 28-29, 2016
Objective: I can apply triangle theorems to solve problems. I can discover and apply SSS and
SAS triangle congruence shortcuts.
 Warm-up: finish textbook work on pp 216-7:1-15. Add to: pp 208-9:1-11,21-22, and p
218: 19,20,22.
 Review worksheet (in class section) with partner (to prepare for quiz)
 Go over warm-up and worksheet, adding quiz hints and suggestions. Quiz next block!
 Investigation 4.4 – p 169:1-2
 Read together p 219 and discuss results of investigations, which shortcuts work because
of the investigation (SSS and SAS).
 Demonstration of why SSA does not work (always).
 Pre-view homework. Remember homework is not on the quiz. Cannot be determined.
 HW #7: p 222-3:1-6,8-15.
Quiz Wed-Thurs, 4.1-3 – 22 pts
Test next Thurs-Fri – appr 60 pts
Wed-Thurs, November 30 – December 1, 2016
Objective: I can demonstrate mastery over basic triangle properties. I can discover and apply
ASA and SAA shortcuts. I can prove base angles of an isosceles triangle congruent.
 Warm-up: Worksheet – Simple SAS, SSS
 Investigation on p 225 for ASA Congruence Shortcut
 Take a grade on HW #7 – 3 pts
 Self-check warm-up and investigation.
 Go over HW; questions on warm-up.
 Use investigation to argue for SAA. If two triangles are congruent by a shortcut, then 3
more parts are congruent (pre-view CPCTC from p 230)
 Partner discuss and share – argument for Isosceles Triangle Theorem from sketches on
board.
 Fill-in-the-blank proof of Isosceles triangle Theorem
 Example A on p 230 – modeling a mini-proof
 HW #8: p 223-4:17,20,21; pp 227-8: 1-15. 5 are CBD.
 Quiz 4.1-3 – 22 pts
Test next Thurs-Friday on triangles – 60 pts
Fri-Monday, Dec 2,5 , 2016
Objective: I can use triangle congruence shortcuts to prove corresponding parts of
congruent triangles are congruent.
 Go over HW #8 (#7 also in 8th and 1st). – 2nd period – 4 pt grade on HW #8
 Triangle Congruence worksheet – 6 problems.
 Fill in the blank proof on board – Perpendicular Bisector Theorem.
 Model/try – more mini-proofs
 HW # 9: p 231: 1-9 – mini-proofs – 6 pts, due next block. Instructions on blog.
Test Thurs-Fri, December 8-9, Triangles – 60 pts
Tues-Wed, December 6-7, 2016
Objective: I can use triangle congruence shortcuts to prove parts of triangles are congruent. I
can apply congruence shortcuts to determine whether or not two triangles are congruent.
 Worksheet Practice (8 problems) △___  △ _____ by _____
 Take a grade on HW #8 -4 pts and #9 – 5 pts
 Share warm-up answers/ questions.
 Share Homework #9 – good work, strategies, questions, etc.
 Fill-in-the-blank proof of Th 28 – Vertex Angle Bisector Theorem
