 Students
will identify fractions in
simplest form and find the simplest
form of a fraction
 Students will learn and use correct
academic vocabulary
 Students will think, pair, and share
to explain how to solve problems
 Students
must know multiplication facts
Factors
numbers you can multiply
together to get another number
(Example: 4 and 2 are factors of
8, because 4×2= 8. )
When the only common factor of
the numerator and denominator
is 1, the fraction is in simplest
form, or it is reduced to lowest
terms.(Other terms that means
simplest form are lowest form or
reduced terms)
the largest number that divides
evenly into all of the numbers
12 = 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12
16 = 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 16
GCF = 4
Find the greatest common
factor of the numerator and
the denominator and divide
both by that number.
3 ÷3 = 1
9 ÷3 3
First write your factors of 3
3- 1, 3
Then write your factors of 9
9- 1, 3, 9
GCF= 3
Then divide your numerator and denominator by
3
10 ÷ 5 = 2
15 ÷ 5 = 3
First write your factors of 10
1,2,5,10
Then write your factors of 15
1,3,5,15
GCF= 5
Then divide your numerator and
denominator by 5
18 ÷ 6 = 3
24 ÷ 6 = 4
First write your factors of 18
1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 18
Then write your factors of 24
1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24
GCF= 6
Then divide your numerator and
denominator by 6
8
32


8 ÷ 8=1
32 ÷ 8 = 4
Write the factors of 8
1, 2, 4, 8
Write factors of 32
1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32
GCF= 8
Then divide your numerator and denominator by 8
15 ÷ 5 =3
35 ÷ 5 =7
Try and remember the steps
Write the factors of 15
1, 3, 5, 15
Write factors of 35
1, 5, 7, 35
GCF= 5
Then divide your numerator and denominator by 5



Now try and solve it on your own
Find a partner and take turns showing each other how
you arrived at your answer
Then sit quietly and wait for the teacher to call you so
that you and your partner can explain how you solved
your problem.
