Accessible Performances: What’s coming up?
Autumn/Winter 2011/2012
CLOCKWORK ORANGE
A new adaptation with words by Ed DuRanté and music by
Fred Carl
Anthony Burgess' cult novel A Clockwork Orange is reimagined on the eve of its 50th anniversary.
This is the iconic story that has influenced and inspired rock
stars and artists from The Rolling Stones, David Bowie and
Gnarls Barkley to Andy Warhol and, of course, Stanley Kubrick,
who made the famous film.
It's the near future. Intelligent, irreverent Alex's ultra-violent
lifestyle catches up with him. He is imprisoned and entered into a government
experiment aimed at ending all crime. He finds himself in an unexpected and lifealtering personal horror show, which leads him to a choice: redemption or downfall?
In this new adaptation, writer Ed DuRanté perfectly captures Burgess' unique use of
language and style which, married by a rich contemporary score by Fred Carl, brings
fresh resonance to this modern classic.

SHALOM BABY
A new play written and directed by Rikki BeadleBlair.
Shalom Baby is a warm, funny and poignant new
play from award-winning writer and director Rikki
Beadle-Blair.
In 1930s Berlin - an intriguing city of Jazz and
overground cabaret overpowered by the rise of
Hitler and World War II - the daughter of a Jewish
family falls in love with their black shabbesgoy
(servant). Fast-forward to the tale of a mixed-race couple in seemingly unprejudiced
modern-day Brooklyn, where the same family is coping with a number of calamities.
Shalom Baby is a touching and very funny exploration of love, family and friendship.
Rikki Beadle-Blair first entertained audiences at Theatre Royal Stratford East with sellout 2005 success Bashment, and returned with the hilarious Familyman in 2008. His
other plays include FIT, which, along with Bashment, has been turned into a feature
film.
