Regents Self-Contained Syllabus
This self-contained class is the first year of a two-year Global History and Geography sequence.
In this course we will study history from the Paleolithic Era to the mid 18 th Century. Students
engage in a comparative study of the geography, history, politics, economics and social
structures of different regions of the world. There is a final exam at the end of this course. It is the
goal of the two- year Global History and Geography sequence to prepare students to take the
Global History and Geography Regents at the end of 10 th grade.
Knowledge and Skills Objectives

Understand the important concepts and people that influence World History.

Recognize the global connections.

Analyze similarities and differences among events in World History.

Determine the causes and effects of events in World History.
In addition, students will develop note taking skills, writing skills, reading strategies, critical
thinking skills, study skills, mapping techniques, and strategies to examine/analyze historical
documents.
