REPORT ON ANNUAL REPORT of the PROSTRATE CANCER FOUNDATION
The Prostate Foundation report a funding income for year ended 30/06/2012 of $12.2
million, of this the Movember organisation contributed $6.1 million. The cost of funding was
7% of income. The Prostate Cancer Foundation now has 135 affiliated support groups and
finances 57 active research groups. Commitments to research and nursing are now a total of
$12.8 million.
The contribution by Movember has enabled 13 specialist prostate cancer nurses to be
placed around Australia, one of whom is at Tamworth, NSW.
There is a long list of thank you’s to sponsors and donors, with Rotary heading the list. Each
contributing club (including Coonabarabran) is named.
As an aside: by chance I came across two free books put out by the Prostate Cancer
Foundation. The first is called “LOCALISED PROSTATE CANCER – A guide for men and their
families”, and deals with a description of the cancer, having it diagnosed, the various
treatments that are available if it is present, and the various issues after treatment.
The second book is called “ADVANCED PROSTATE CANCER – a guide for men and their
families”, and, as the name suggests, is for those where surgery or other treatment has not
removed all the cancer, or those who were diagnosed too late to take preventative action. It
gives details of a number of treatments available, research being undertaken, support
groups available, palliative care, and so on. As I come under this latter group with residual
cancer cells remaining, I found the information in the book gave me a better understanding
of what was happening to me and the alternatives I had available.

REPORT ON ANNUAL REPORT of AUSTRALIAN ROTARY HEALTH
The Australian Rotary Health annual report reiterates its continuing research and support
for mental health, especially between the ages 0 to 25 years, as well as providing Indigenous
Health Scholarships, Rural Medical Scholarships ( one each going to Orange and Dubbo as
well as other places), and Post Graduate Rural Nursing Scholarships (again one to Dubbo).
A number of grants for research relating to various aspects of mental health were made to
PhD. and other specialist people.
Australian Rotary Health held assets of $12.236 million at 30/06/2012 and had an operating
revenue of $3.025 million.
Cancer Australia (a government organisation) is a partner with Australian Rotary Health. The
partnership was set up so that Rotarians and others can contribute to cancer research
through Rotary. All donations are 100% tax deductable and all money goes to cancer
research. In 2012 $40,000 was received.
