Egyptian doctors found that washing
their hands and heating their instruments
with fire before surgery reduced infection
in patients.

world’s first writing systems

with picture symbols called
hieroglyphs, which were developed so
that kings could keep track of their
land and livestock
 The hieroglyphs were carved on walls
of temples and tombs or were written

 The Nile River was used for
farming , fishing , raising animals
, and trading.
 People began to settle around the
Nile 5000 years ago.
 Egyptians grew wheat , flax and
barley in huge amounts , but if
the farmer couldn’t come up with
required crop tax he was brutally
beaten.
 Egyptians used hoes and plows
to break up soil and they used a
tool called shaduf to bring back
the water from the canals
to there farms.

 Nile had fresh water and fish also
the people used the mud to make
houses.
 Egyptians were protected from
attack by water falls and swamps
and the natural barriers of
ancient Egypt prevented frequent
attacks from outsiders.
 The swamps and desserts
protected them from others and
the natural flooding made land
fertile and easy to grow.
