Geometry 2D Lesson Plans 5.7 Identify essential attributes including parallel, perpendicular, and congruent parts of two and three dimensional geometric figures Day One – 10 – 15 minutes to introduce vocabulary and pre-assess o 2D Attributes Matching Game (cut out the attributes and bag) Try to figure out matches o Reveal matches with 2D Attributes Flip Chart on Team Wiki Give students copies to glue in their journals (You can give them after the attributes after or before for help with the sketches) Build on Geoboards to see the difference between 4 sided quadrilaterals, o Each student will have a “Attributes and Sketch” blank table to complete o Put students into pairs and give each pair a geoboard and a rubberband o Follow the “Geoboard Directions” flipchart on the team Wiki o Walk around the tables to find someone who got it to sketch it Students can use their definition sheet as a reference Day Two – Give students “Student Sheet 1, Is it a Polygon?” – Pre-Assessment Talk about attributes of a polygon o Straight lines creating angles (no curves) o Closed figures Students will complete “Polygon or Not” and fill in worksheet Look at Flip Chart – Geometry Real World Examples – 5th Wiki Students will complete “Can You Match This” worksheets Day Three As a class look at pg. 260 in Envision book – Basic Geometric Ideas Basic Geometric Ideas – Worksheet practice Look at pg. 264 for Classifying Angles Complete B226 & Classify Angles worksheet Day Four Geometry Scavenger Hunt Informal Assessment Day Five – Practice Sorting Triangles Triangles Identify worksheet practice Review any 2D attributes
