Introduction to Chemistry
By: Josh Varney
In this paper I will
thoroughly explain the concept of
Chemistry. There are two parts of
Chemistry -Basic Atomic Theory and
The Period Table. I will cover some
chemistry vocabulary and give some
examples.
In this paragraph I will
explain what the Basic Atomic
Theory is. A part of this is term an
Atom which is the smallest particle
that still has the properties of an
element. Some terms are nucleus,
proton, neutron, and electron.
Those are the subatomic parts of an
Atom, the nucleus is the brain and
the center of the atom. A proton is
positively charged particle. The
electron is a negatively charged
particle and a mass of 1 AMU . A
neutron is neutral or no charge
and it also has mass of 1 AMU. An
A.M.U is Atomic Mass Unit. What that
means is how much it weighs or the
mass. An electron configuration
tells how many electrons are in
each shell. A model that shows the
shells and the nucleus is a Bohr
Model that looks like thisA
shell hold the electrons and show
where they are placed. A shorthand
Bohr model is like the Bohr Model
but not as big and it is easier to
understand looks like this 2e- 8e2eIn this paragraph I will
explain what a Periodic Table is and
some terms that go along with it.
Some key terms are an Element
which is a substance that can not be
broken down any smaller.
(page 3)
The Periodic Table is a
classification system of elements.
Grouping elements together with
similar characteristics. The
Periodic Table has two sorting
pieces like groups and periods. A
group puts elements with the same
characteristics together. A period
tells how many shells the element
has. The Periodic Table is broken
down into names like Alkali Metals
which are very very unstable and
very very react able. Alkaline Earth
Metal which are very reactive and
unstable but not as dangerous as
Alkali Metals. Transition Metals
that are stable and unreactable.
Halogens mix with the Alkali Metals
to form salt and Nobel gasses are
gasses that are very stable and
unreactable. A part of the Periodic
Table is the Red Stair Case which
separates the metals from
nonmetals. Metals on the left and
gasses on the right. In each element
box there are three parts the
Atomic Symbol which is an
abbreviation of the element. The
Average Atomic Mass which is the
weight of the element and if you
subtract the Atomic Number from
the Atomic Mass you will get the
number of neutrons. Finally there
is the Atomic Number it tells how
many electrons the element has.
I am Learning a lot about
these topics in Science class.
The Phantom of the
Opera
By: Lorik Morgan
The book, Phantom of the
Opera, Is about a man named Erik.
Erik was a genius but because he
had physical deformities, he was
driven into insanity. The
protagonist, Cristine Da’ae, is a very
talented singer she lost her father
who told her that he would send
the angel of music to protect her.
The Phantom posed as the Angel of
Music, but Cristine’s love,Raoul
saves her from the clutches of the
evil phantom. The setting is in Paris
1910. Some still believe the
phantom is inside the old opera
house.

Poetry
By: Katie Foss
Poetry has no boundaries
You must look between the lines
You should write when your emotion
Is at it’s most possible high
It helps sort out emotion
And get your mind straight
It helps in the toughest times
When all you can do is hate
Poetry takes many forms
It keeps no basic shape
There is no right or wrong
Only the shape you form it into
And poetry is never the same to one
person
There’s always some different
meaning
You may see....
