Position Overview
Reporting to the Director of Supply Chain Management, the Business Intelligence Analyst (BIA) will be responsible for
designing BI information models, dashboards, metrics and reports utilizing standard technologies and methodologies that
meet business objectives. This position combines programming, SQL skills, best practices and business expertise to
deliver efficient and scalable Business Intelligence solutions to improve business productivity and business outcomes for
Supply Chain Management.






Evaluates and refine Business Intelligence goals, business objectives, decision support needs, data and
performance requirements to meet departmental/project level objectives.
Analyzes data elements and business rules applicable to the business requirements and offers options for
moderately complex Business Intelligence information model solutions that satisfy the customer’s needs.
Prepares data for Business Intelligence solutions including identification of missing information, quality and lack of
quality to the data owners. Performs moderate to complex transformation of metadata for use. Organizes data for
analysis appropriate for structured data.
Reviews multiple sources of raw data to develop predictive analysis that allows supply chain management to
make better business decisions by predicting key areas of risk within the supply chain, predicting business
process risks and establishing optimal staffing resource models to increase functional capacity.
Participates in assessment of current technology, evaluates use of technology and utilizes standard
methodologies. Chooses best-fit Business Intelligence technologies, methodologies and visualizations given data
and business requirement criteria. Recommends information delivery options and methodologies. Establishes
best practices and guidelines and trains others in the use and interpretation of information models.
Utilizes programming and database queries to implement scalable and efficient query models. Iteratively executes
Business Intelligence models and development. Performs analysis to identify and understand an issue or event.
Investigates evident issues through drill-down exploration and descriptive statistics. Improves productivity through
automation and standardization.



Evaluates and validate quality of performance on completeness of Business Intelligence models and solutions.
Troubleshoots and resolves quality and performance issues. Evaluates, validates and refines moderate to
complex Business Intelligence solutions to meet business objectives.
Participates in determining whether stakeholder needs are met and business value is realized. Communicates
and collaborate with business partners. Supports means of production and deployment (i.e. upgrades, testing,
etc.). Delivers decision support visualizations and reports, dashboards and/or metrics.
Translates complex data intelligence to groups across the supply chain management organization as well as work
at identifying data management and reporting process improvements and guiding business users on the
requirements and application of reporting data.
Competencies

Must be proficient in designing Business Intelligence information models, dashboards, metrics and reports utilizing
standard technologies and methodologies that meet business objectives.

Must be able to gather data from multiple sources to compile or create a variety of complex reports for management
reviews and tracking performance to plan.

Must have experience performing statistical analyses, data mining and forecasting future trends from existing data
by using predictive analytics.
Must have a comprehensive understanding of existing and emerging data management processes and
techniques, such as but not limited to: descriptive statistics and other common business analytics.
Must be proficient in SAP Business Object.








Must have working level knowledge in one or more major analytics tools (e.g. SAS, SQL, SPSS, SQL Query).
Excellent communication skills both oral and written including ability to communicate with users of varying
technical and business backgrounds is essential.
Must have knowledge of basic business functions and departments.
Must have well-developed facilitative, communication, problem-solving, organizational skills and team-building
skills.
Prefer working level knowledge of Cognos.
Prefer experience taking the lead with the creation of BIA models.
Education/Experience
 Must have a Canadian high school diploma or recognized equivalence.
 Must have relevant post-secondary education in a related field (i.e. Commerce, Business Analyst, or Information
Technology).
 Must have 5+years’ (prefer 10+ years’) relevant experience in a Business Intelligence or Business Analyst role.
 Must be expert level in Microsoft Access, PowerPoint, Word, MS Project and Excel including PowerPivot.
 Prefer experience with BIA implementation.
 Must have experience with SAP.
 Prefer knowledge of Supply Chain Management.

