Developer, Glaucoma Mock Orals Module. Created a mock oral
examination and have administered exam to all 2nd year residents at the end of
their glaucoma rotation (9 residents to date). Examination assesses learning
and introduces residents to the oral boards format.
March 2011-Now Developer, New Didactic Format for Glaucoma Teaching to Residents.
Developed materials for, organized, and implemented a new format for
teaching visual field analysis, optic nerve assessment, and management of
glaucoma care to ophthalmology residents in training. Lectures previously
given in person have been placed on-line, and time previously allocated for

lectures has been replaced with interactive case-based discussion in which 5-7
faculty review case findings and management strategies with an attending
physician. The Wilmer Residency Education Task Force recommended that
many of the principles of this program be incorporated department-wide, and
now all Wilmer teaching is done in 3-hours sessions as opposed to daily 1
hour morning lectures.
June 2012 – Now Glaucoma Division Residency Education Champion. Am responsible for
teaching and education of glaucoma for Wilmer Eye Institute residents.
Responsibilities include organizing and leading 5 three-hour didactic sessions
a year. For each session, I arrange for 3 faculty (myself and 2 others) to hold
structured case discussions with the residents. The remaining 90 minutes
contain a quiz, quiz review, and a jeopardy-style game show to teach/review
factual information. I am responsible for creating all materials for these
sessions including the case materials with imbedded questions, an “answer
sheet” for case questions, quizzes, and game show questions.
