Data Center main mission
● Globally speaking a Data Center
has one main mission:
● Supplying data processing and
storage capacity to continuously
operate business…
● …guarantying optimum up-time and
energy efficiency, in a perfectly
secure manner…
● ...while keeping in control the
environmental long term impact
3
Data center customer expectations
 Improving power availability
● Maximum energy
efficiency
Forecast growth in Data Center power
consumption in the USA and Europe (* EU-15 +
Switzerland).
4
Data center customer expectations
● Maximum flexibility
● Maximum speed
deployment
of
Data centers activity involves IT equipment that
is constantly changing. The installation must be
designed so as to:
•satisfy the increasing needs in electrical power
from new generations of servers.
•allow flexibility and upgradability without
altering the data center operations.
● Optimized Capex and Opex
TOC (Total Cost of Ownership)
● Equipment acquisition cost (CapEx Capital Expenditure)
● Operating and maintenance costs
(OpEx – Operating Expenditure)

Metering by line and rack PDU
•You have a clear view of capacity available for new servers.
Define consumption reduction actions.
Accurately allocate and charge the energy costs for each server.
13
Historic of the previous alarms
Allows you to diagnose faults and take action rapidly without shutting down
operations.

Availability is drastically
increased
Busway
The decentralized electrical distribution architecture based
on Busway is much more reliable than the traditional
centralized solution based on cables and PDU.
This result comes mainly from the architecture and not
from the reliability difference between busway and cables.
Busway
Unavailability:
10,28 hours / years
Cables
PDU + cables unavailability:
16,74 hours / year
This graph shows the yearly unavailability for a Tier II architecture.
These results are from a complete study of all data center
architecture. This study is available for consultation
22
A safe & simple solution compare to the legacy
cable
● Main LV switchboard + cables
● Main LV switchboard + Busway
● Tap-off units can be plugged in or
removed without shutting down the
system, ensuring maximum continuity of
service when the racks are added or
moved
● iBusway for Data Center makes electric
circuits clear and easy to understand for
fast servicing where needed
● Zero foot print : busway can be installed
overhead or raised floor
23
Decentralized distribution reduces the risks of
human error
● Legibility of distribution : Electrical architecture
components are easy to locate and to identify
● Servicing in front of the cabinet
● without walking to a remote location power distribution unit
to turn off the circuit to the cabinet,
● risking the human error of shutting off the wrong circuit.
● Canalis are maintenance free thanks to sliding contact
made of silver platted copper
1 – spring of the tap-off clamp
2 – copper zone of the clamp
3 – silver-plated copper zone
4 – conductor silver- plated copper ridder
24
The solution brings you flexibility
● 1st year installation (40%)
● 2 years later (100%)
● You can upgrade your installation during lifetime
● To buy only what you need
● To optimize your TCO
● To increase the power of an existing IT room
● A system ready to a speed of deployment
● Reducing installation time on site
● Busway and tap-off units are plug and play to reduce the work
25
Thanks to decentralized distribution the
copper losses are reduced

No hazardous substances in iBusway for Data
Center components
● All Canalis Busway components are halogen
free as standard (no PVC)



Conductors are air
insulated
Housing is made of steel
Plastic parts are mainly
made of PA ( polyamide)
● Canalis Busway is designed in compliance
with the RoHs European recommendation
27
iBusway for Data Center has a long lifecycle
and can be easily recycled
● Canalis Busway is designed for a long service life
and can easily be dismantled, cleaned and reused
Old circuits cables become
a waste in 95% of cases
● First 1956 installation is still in use
● More than 30 years old installations in the European
car industry still in use
● All components of our products are stamped to show
their material to make recycling easier
● All materials used in our packing can be recycled
28
iBusway for Data Center key benefits 1/2
Availability
● Thanks to the decentralized distribution the power availability is increased by a factor 1,6
compare to low voltage switchboard & cable distribution
● The monitoring of the branch circuit load enables to anticipate potential tripping
● The default localization reduce the servicing time
Energy efficiency
● The solution measures the energy of the racks and enables to analyze and to envisage actions to
optimize energy
● The small size of the busway compare to cable improves raised floor cooling
● Thanks to the decentralized distribution the copper losses are reduced
Contribute to sustainable development
● No hazardous substance
● Clean, reusable and fully recyclable
29
iBusway for Data Center key benefits 2/2
Flexibility
●Tap-off units are plug and play power on
●The monitoring system can be set up directly by the electrical team in the IT room
Speed of deployment
●Thanks to modular system, basic architectures can be copied and adapted to each size,
shape and data center’s uses
●Tap-off unit are pre-wired and pre-tested in workshop
●Busway and tap-off units are plug and play to reduce the work on site
●The monitoring system is ready to use
Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
●Optimized investment and maintenance costs reduced the TCO by 5 to 10% vs Low
Voltage switchboard & cable
●Enable capacity management and sub-billing
