ENERGY OPTIMIZATION IN THE EDIBLE OIL INDUSTRY AT RECONQUISTA CITY
Contact: Prof. Dr. O. Iribarren
Email: [email protected]
The research plan consists of three stages. The first was a thermal audit of the oil plants aimed
at the generation of opportunities for improvement in thermal integration. The second, currently
ongoing, is a specific study about alternative choices for a fuel to feed the boilers. The region
lacks natural gas, and wood, the traditional fuel used by the local industry, is becoming more
expensive as it is harvested each time farther. We will study the convenience of either gasify a
lignocellulosic waste generated by a nearby cotton processing factory, or use it as a solid fuel
after pelleting, through a both economic and environmental impact assessment. The third line
is more comprehensive and will take the information generated in previous phases to address
a global analysis considering also other alternatives of use of locally generated biomass
residues. Not only as solid or liquid fuels as they are employed now, but also for the production
of liquid biofuels ethanol - diesel, biogas, or after recovering some valuable components e.g.
tocopherols or lecithin, developing a methodology to simultaneously address the material and
energy integration of processes in the agro-industrial chain in the area of Reconquista, which
includes the oil and sugar chains and the production of biodiesel and bioethanol in the
neighborhood of Reconquista. The methodology can be briefly described as a “Source-Sink”
programming, using process models as optional “Operators” to convert Sources into alternative
Sources, acceptable by alternative Sinks e.g. the market in case of valuable products, as raw
materials of the existing processes, or again as fuels. A first advance in this line has been
published as “Synthesis of a Mass Integrated Biodiesel Process” Carlos Fischer and Oscar

PARAMETER DEVELOPMENT OF THE PROTOTYPE DESIGN FOR THE PRODUCTION OF
NON-CONTAMINANT ENERGY, IN THE REGION OF PARANÁ ISLANDS.
Contact: Ing. A. Morzán
Email: [email protected]
This work investigates and develops a method for electric energy generation, making
use of a river flow. It also aims at avoiding big infrastructures such as the ones required by a
hydroelectric dam. Although there are many turbines available in the market for small scale
energy generation, none of them can operate efficiently within rivers of flat areas such as the
ones found in middle Paraná region. For that reason, we are designing a turbine prototype that
could be implemented within rivers of flat areas.
This Project is motivated by the implementation of renewable energy to be applied in
the northern of Santa Fe province of Argentina. The low cost and simplicity of the construction
will make this device to be accessible for users of scarce economical resources. Besides, it will
supply non-contaminant and cheap electric energy to geographical regions that are nowadays
unprovided with conventional electricity.
This project is carried out by advanced students and researchers of UTN - Facultad
Regional Reconquista.
MEASUREMENTS ON LOW VOLTAGE SUPPLY NETWORKS AND DETERMINATION OF
HARMONIC DISTORTION
Contact: Ing. D. Salinas

Actually, international standards regarding electrical energy quality and pollution into the
electric supply network with harmonic currents have gained special interest due to disturbances
of the voltage waveform that is provided by the net. Ideally, this voltage waveform should be a
pure sine wave with constant frequency, however, it does not happen because the voltage

wave have perturbations such as noise in differential mode, electric pulses, fast or slow
variations, voltage flicker, harmonic distortion and frequency variations.
If the electric supply network would be free of users, it would have a good quality voltage wave,
occasionally disturbed by faults in the generation centre, in the distribution or due to
environmental factors. However, when a large number of users are connected to the network, it
is subjected to a bid load of electric charges that can constantly alter the wave. Besides it can
induce abnormal consumption or shorts, which can affect other loads that are closely
connected.
Therefore, analyzing and identifying the source of pollution and the effects of harmonics on low
voltage distribution networks that supplies residential and commercial sectors, will help to
mitigate the negative impact. It can be done by analyzing and interpreting current regulations,
comparing measurement methods as well as instruments and results.
This work studies the harmonic content, which is represented by the Total Harmonic Distortion
(THD), and the deterioration of the power factor in the low voltage networks. Measurements
are carried out in Reconquista and Avellaneda cities of Santa Fe province. Consequently, we
expect to obtain crucial information to determine the harmonic distortion and provide a
mitigation plan and/or solution in order to improve energy quality in this region.
IMPACT OF SOFTWARE IMPLEMENTATION IN MATHEMATICS LEARNING

Different technologies have been developed though the history and mathematics has not been
the exception. This how we went from abacus to manual adding machines to continue with the
calculator and arrive at present with computers.
This work investigates the use of computers as a tool for learning mathematics. In fact, there is
a current rethinking of the methodology for teaching mathematics, modifying the relationship
pupil-teacher-technological resources, to achieve a synergistic interaction that achieves high
levels of understanding of the academic contents.

The questions that give rise to the proposed research work are:
How the implementation of a Software affects the student´s learning?
What kind of change can be observed with respect to mathematical skills?
What kind of changes can be detected regarding the use of mathematical concepts?
How Mathematica software helps in the learning process?
In this project we analyze these questions for the particular case of students of engineering of
the Facultad Regional Reconquista.
STUDY OF LIGNOCELULOSES AND EXTRACTIBLES ON SURFACES FOR THE
DEVELOPMENT OF NANO-STRUCTURES AND MOLECULAR MACHINES
Contact: Dr. S. M. Mendoza
Email: [email protected]
Nanotechnology refers to a field whose theme is the control of matter on an atomic and
molecular scale. Generally, nanotechnology deals with structures that are 100 nanometers or
smaller, and involves developing materials or devices within that size. Materials reduced to the
nanoscale can show different properties compared to what they exhibit on a macro-scale,
enabling unique applications. For instance, opaque substances become transparent; stable
materials turn combustible; solids turn into liquids at room temperature; insulators become
conductors. Thus, nanotechnology has the potential to create many new materials and devices
with wide-ranging applications, such as in medicine, electronics, energy production, and raw
material saving.
Lignocellulose and its extractible possess interesting properties for the fabrication of
nanostructures and building blocks of molecular machines. However, they have not been
deeply explored as nanomaterials. Thus, this project propose to study lignoceluloses of
regional sources and its extractibles in order to investigate their potential as nanomaterial, in
particular those molecules of interest for developing nanostructures and molecular machines.
Particularly, we will study the surface of lignocelulosic samples modified by both etherification
with epoxides and UV radiation. We will also study extractible on surfaces of Au(111) and

HOPG. Samples will be characterized by XPS and STM. Moreover, we will explore techniques
of low environmental impact to separate lignocellulose and extractible from they source.
Therefore, we will advance in understanding matter at nano-scale, we will learn about the
electronic structure, changes under several stimuli (chemical modification, UV radiation) and
we will know about surface and interphase phenomena that have not been yet investigated.
Besides scientific research, this project aim at establishing the basis of a new working line in
the Facultad Regional Reconquista of Universidad Tecnológica Nacional.
ANALYTICAL AND NUMERICAL SYSTEMATIZATION FOR FRAMEWORKS RESOLUTION:
STATIC, DYNAMIC AND STRUCTURAL STABILITY, IN THE CONTEXT OF AEROSPACE,
MECHANICAL AND CIVIL ENGINEERING.
Contact: Mg. Ing. H. Martín
Email: [email protected]
This work is motivated by finding solutions to plane frameworks of closed systems, by
developing power series. This development takes into account automaticity in the geometrical
conditions of continuity and equilibrium for the case of characteristic forces at nodes, where
two or more bars can access.
Among engineering disciplines using bar frameworks – for both plane and spatial behaviours rigidity programs are used since decades. These programs select kinematic unknowns at the
bar boundaries that change directions, simplifying the problem resolution of several bars
connected in a node.
The entire calculation programme is carried out by Software Mathematica 8.
