Q:Describe in detail, direct and representative democracy. Explain why the U.S. doesn’t use direct democracy
today.
A: Direct Democracy: All citizens of Athens could participate directly in the government. Each person’s decision
directly affects the outcome of the vote. Majority ruled!
Representative Democracy: Also known as a republic. Citizens elect officials to represent them in the gov’t.
These elected officials meet to make the country’s laws and enforce them.
Why the U.S. doesn’t use Direct Democracy: The U.S. has too big of a population! We would never be able
to fit the whole population in one area for a debate and would
be very difficult to make decisions.
