Geography for our project. Remember, the
5 themes are:

– 2. Place.

– 4. Region
– 5. Human-Environment Interaction
Location
• Absoluate Location: 33ºN, 44ºE
• Relative Locations:
– Mesopotamia was approximately 300 miles
long and 150 miles wide.
– It was located between the Tigris and
Euphrates Rivers.
– Mesopotamia is located in current day Iraq.
Place
• Place includes many details about a civilization.
• Place includes Physical Features:
– Climate
– Landscape
– Bodies of Water
• Place includes Human Features:

Region
• Regions are areas that share common
characteristics.
• The region of Mesopotamia:
– Southwestern Asia
– Region is known as “The Fertile Crescent”
– This region had two landscapes:
• the Northern Zone was mountainous.
• The Southern area was mainly desert, except
along the banks of these two rivers.
Movement
• Over centuries, Mesopotamian civilizations
developed through movement, mingling,
and settlement in rich river valleys and
plains.
• Movement consisted of boats, wagons,
and horses.
• Mesopotamians used the rivers for trade.
