Research Activities I. Current Research Activities 1) IR optical properties of grating and microstructures structures and grating-based optical components. Theoretically we have developed simulation tools that are based on an operatorsymbolic S-matrix propagation algorithm (SPA), which uses MATLAB software. It allowed us to design and analyze efficient unconventional optical-based components such as grating-based spectral deflectors, filters, polarizers, beamsplitters, mirrors and antireflectors. The experimental work includes the fabrication of grating and micro-pyramid cavities on silicon and GaAs wafers, and measurements of IR (2 to 25 micron) transmission, reflection and thermal emission, (publications # 19-39,44, in the CV). 2) Investigating the effects of gamma radiation and vacuum on the optical and electrical properties of optoelectronic Devices: MQW laser diodes and photodiodes, LED, heterostructures laser, pin photodiodes and phototransistors. (publications # 1,2,3,6,1015,17,40,42,44, in the CV). Recently, we has indicated that unlike bulk materials MQW structures are more susceptible to atomic displacements. We found that due to gammairradiation, a displacement of a few atoms between the quantum layers could change the optical and electrical properties of the devices. II. Previous Research Activities 1) Monolithically Peltier-Cooled Laser Diodes: I have developed integrated cooling laser diode, by integrating Peltier cooling with laser diode. The experimental work in this field includes growing (by LPE) and fabricating GaAlAs monolithically thermoelectric cooled laser diodes. (papers 4,7,8,9). 2) Investigation of Optical and Electrical Properties of Thin-Film Zn3P2 Deposited by Closed spaced Vapor Transport.
