Middleton Climate Referendum
Announcement for Organizational Outreach
As you know, the 2016 November Election includes a unique opportunity for local residents to vote on the
Middleton Climate Referendum. In an effort to make residents aware of the referendum, we ask that you
include one of the below pre-drafted announcements in your next wave of outreach (e.g., newsletter, e-mail,
etc.). We wanted to make this as turnkey as possible for you and your organization, and included a short,
medium or long version for consideration in your upcoming communication efforts.
SHORT VERSION -- 101 words
Vote Nov. 8 -- Middleton Climate Referendum
November is a big month for Middleton. In addition to voting for the next President of the United States and
other elected officials, you have a unique opportunity to vote on the Middleton Climate Referendum -- a nonbinding advisory referendum that says climate-change solutions are a priority both locally and nationally.
Middleton residents can voice their opinions at the polls on one of the biggest challenges of our lifetime, and
help lead the way to building cleaner, safer and stronger communities for our families and future generations.

Middleton residents can voice their opinions at the polls on one of the biggest challenges of our lifetime, and
help lead the way to building cleaner, safer and stronger communities for our families and future generations.
The referendum contains the following two Climate Change questions -- the first focused on reducing the risks
of global warming LOCALLY, and the second focused on making Middleton the FIRST CITY in the COUNTRY to
pass a referendum supporting a federal program to cut carbon emissions NATIONALLY.
 Should the City of Middleton reduce the risks of global warming through its policy decisions and
actions?
 Should the City of Middleton endorse a federal carbon fee and dividend program as part of a
national strategy to reduce the risks of global warming?

 Should the City of Middleton reduce the risks of global warming through its policy decisions and
actions? A VOTE YES says climate-change solutions are a priority for Middleton, encouraging the City
to leverage and improve existing efforts to cut carbon use and focus on cleaner solutions, as well as
prepare for the impacts of climate change by continuing to strengthen its capacity to withstand and
respond to severe weather. Investing now in appropriate infrastructure and capacity will reduce future
costs.
 Should the City of Middleton endorse a federal carbon fee and dividend program as part of a
national strategy to reduce the risks of global warming? A VOTE YES makes Middleton the FIRST CITY
in the COUNTRY to pass a referendum supporting a federal Carbon Fee and Dividend program as part
of a national strategy to cut carbon emissions and reduce the risks of climate change -- using the voice
of an entire city to send one loud message to federal legislators to do something significant and
effective about climate change now.
