Geometry Concepts Syllabus Instructor: Mrs. Spencer School Phone #: (815) 765 - 9461 Class: Geometry Concepts E-mail: [email protected] Year: 2014 - 2015 Semester: 1 and 2 Website: http://mrsaspencer.weebly.com Text: Geometry, Prentice Hall, 2009 *** For extra help online, visit: www.phschool/math (click on textbook companion site, our textbook, then chapter number) Description: This is a course in Euclidian Geometry dealing with points, lines, planes, and polygons. Students learn about congruency and similarity on the basic figures of geometry. Parallel and perpendicular lines are studied with their relationship to slope. Formulas for finding the areas of two and three dimensional figures are investigated. Properties and theories involving triangles are studied. Inductive and deductive reasoning skills are developed and used in formal proofs. Course Expectations: Be Respectful: o Treat peers and staff the way you would like to be treated! o Treat all property as though you bought it. Be Responsible: o Be in your seat when the bell rings. o Have all class materials with you, pay attention, and take notes. o Have all homework and projects completed when due. o Seek help whenever you need it! o STUDY!! o Only use your phone when I say it is allowed. o Stand up for peers who may be struggling socially or academically. Be Productive: o Try to finish all your work before you go home. o If all your work is done, create me something! Materials (Needed Daily): PENCIL and pen Textbook Notebook and folder or loose-leaf paper and binder Scientific Calculator Semester Grades: Tests: Quizzes: Projects: Homework: 40% 25% 80% of Final Grade! 25% (40% per quarter) 10% 90% - 100% -- A 80% - 89.9% -- B 70% - 79.9% -- C Anything below a 70% is an F Final Exam: 20% Homework: MUST be completed in pencil! Should either be kept in a notebook or on loose leaf paper in a binder. Will usually be between 7 and 20 problems and should take no longer than 30-40 minutes to complete. o If it takes longer than this, guidance is needed. I will be available before and after school most days (make an appointment to ensure that I will be there at the time you want.) khanacademy.com is a great online resource. This is PRACTICE! Therefore, every problem should still be attempted and thought through, but wrong answers will not affect your grade. (***Exception: if done completely wrong, there will be a need for a make-up) Will be peer-graded daily in class for accuracy, and a completion grade (0-4 points) is what will be going towards your final grade. Late homework will lose a point for everyday late. Exams: Will be taken at the end of each chapter. Test will be split up into the chapter sections and they will be graded individually, although still one test grade will be given. If a section is failed, a re-take is allowed as long as ALL homework and study guide was completed PRIOR to the test.
