Cabrera – 8th Grade Science Weekly Overview – 1/6/15-1/9/15
Name ____________________________________ Period _______________
Critical Content:
Definition of energy, different forms of energy, how different forms of energy are involved in transformations, Laws of Conservation of Energy and Mass
Important Vocabulary:
Energy, transformation, law of conservation of energy, conservation of mass, kinetic, potential, mechanical, nuclear, electrical, chemical, thermal, radiant
Tuesday
Warm Up:
Exit Ticket/Summary:
Briefly describe the Law of Conservation of Mass (you are more than welcome to
use your notes and textbook to help you). Based on your description, explain what
you believe the Law of Conservation of Energy is.
Support your answer with a real world example.
Identify one form of energy you saw today. Explain how this form of energy is used and
whether it is potential energy (energy that is stored) or kinetic energy (energy of motion).
Warm Up:
Is there a limit to how many times energy can be transformed or transferred?
Write a response to the question in which you use specific examples to support
your claim.
Wednesday
Exit Ticket/Summary:
Choose one of the Energy Stations and write a description of the transformations and
transfers of energy that occur.
For example, “In the beginning the energy was stored as chemical energy in the batteries. When the
switch was turned on, the chemical energy transformed into electrical energy in the wires of the radio.
The energy then transformed into sound energy through the speakers.”
Warm Up:
Where do we get the electricity that we use in our homes and at school? Write an
explanation of where you believe the electricity comes from.
Thursday
Exit Ticket/Summary:
Write a summary of what you learned during today’s lesson.
