Thanksgiving Service:
Praise, Prophecy and Prayers
(P.P.P-Power to the Brethren)
Noel Abdullahi
Pre-amble
• Refer to Fasting Meeting
titled Bend in the Road:
Waking up to the reality of
God’s expectation
• How do we help
ourselves in the face of
Distress of nations,
Tribulation, Persecution
and other tragedies that is
befalling the world as
prophesied in Luke
21:25?
• “And there shall be
signs in the sun, and in
the moon, and in the
stars; and upon the
earth distress of
nations, with perplexity;
the sea and the waves
roaring”
• We need to develop the
strategy to maintaining
the victory that Jesus
provided and won for us.
Eccl 9:18:Wisdom is better
than weapons of war
“Deep insights into the plans
and purposes of God giving
us profound understanding of
the times and seasons we live
in.”
The effect of this will be a
replacement of our doubts
and fears with confidence and
faith in God’s Word.
Judah will take the Lead-Strategy of
Praise
Judges 1:1-2
• There were twelve tribes of
Israel. Why should Judah be
called upon to go up first? The
Hebrew word translated as Judah
is used many times in English as
PRAISE.
So the scripture could be
translated as, LET PRAISE
GO UP FIRST. This is good
advice for us when facing
struggles or battles. Let us
first praise. This is both an
act of faith and submission.
• Praise God before the
battle is entered;
anyone can praise when
the battle is over and
won. Only by faith can
we praise at the start.
Excerpt from Scroll 70Thou calledst in trouble,
and I delivered thee; I
answered thee in the
secret place of thunderPs 81:7
By praising Him you will
receive honey out of the
rock, satisfying your soul,
giving you a healthy body!
"Praise will drive out infirm
spirits and loosen the bones!
Heart trouble will not
overcome you and should you
have it, it will leave you!"
Praising the Lord continually
will make the heart happy and
the body will be joyful in
health, your eyes will sparkle
and your vision be plainer!
Music and Prophecy
• 1 Samuel 10:4 – And it will
happen when you have come
there to the city that you will
meet a group of prophets
coming down from the high
place with a stringed
instruments, a tambourine, a
flute, and a hap before them;
• and they will be prophesying.
Then the Spirit of the Lord
will come upon you, and you
will prophesy with them and
be turned into another man.
The prophets were
traveling with their
instruments. They were
walking along playing
music and prophesying. A
musical atmosphere can
set up a prophetic
atmosphere.
• 2 Kings 3:15 – When the
minstrel (instrumentalist)
played, the hand and power
of the Lord came upon Elisha
and he prophesied.
The music inspired the prophet’s
gift in him. Music can inspire a
move of the Spirit and the gifts
within a person to be manifest
• Psalm 22:3 – But You are
holy, O You Who dwell in the
praises of Israel.
• Music creates an
atmosphere. God dwells in
(inhabits) the atmosphere of
praise. He actually inhabits
our praise. The presence of
God is IN the praises; He is
IN the music.
• Our praise brings Him on the
scene. Praise manifests His
presence. If you need the
reality of God in your life,
begin to praise Him from the
depths of your heart. He will
fill your praises and manifest
Himself to you.
• 1 Samuel 16:14-23 –
David’s anointed music
drove out the evil spirit
that was harassing Saul.
• Isaiah 30:31-32 – The voice of
the Lord will shatter Assyria
with His scepter. He will strike
them down. Every stroke the
Lord lays on them with His
punishing rod will be to the
music of tambourines and
harps as He fights them in
battle with the blows of His arm.
• 1 Chronicles 25:1-7 – Moreover,
David and the commanders of the
army set apart for the service some
of the sons of Asaph and of Heman
and of Jeduthun, who were to
prophesy with lyres, harps and
cymbals;
To prophesy is to speak or sing by
inspiration.
Prophets and the prophetic
• Spirit-led, Spirit-filled music
is not just spoken of in the
Old Testament.
• Ephesians 5:18-19 – And do
not get drunk with wine, for
that is debauchery; but ever
be filled and stimulated with
the [Holy] Spirit.
• Speak out to one another
in psalms and hymns and
spiritual songs, offering
praise with voices [and
instruments] and making
melody with all your heart
to the Lord,
• Colossians 3:15-16 – And let the
peace (soul harmony which
comes) from Christ rule (act as
umpire continually) in your
hearts [deciding and settling
with finality all questions that
arise in your minds, in that
peaceful state] to which as
[members of Christ’s] one body
you were also called [to live].
• And be thankful
(appreciative), [giving praise
to God always]. Let the word
[spoken by] Christ (the
Messiah) have its home [in
your hearts and minds] and
dwell in you in [all its]
richness,
• as you teach and admonish
and train one another in all
insight and intelligence and
wisdom [in spiritual things,
and as you sing] psalms and
hymns and spiritual songs,
making melody to God with
[His] grace in your hearts.
• Psalm 32:7 – You are my
hiding place; you shall
preserve me from trouble;
you shall surround me
with songs of deliverance
Notes on prophecy
In English, the word Prophecy
is a combination of two
words:
PRO-Before hand- ahead of
time
PHETES- To speak for another
Rev 19:10, 1 Cor 14:3
• The gift of prophecy allows two
qualifications otherwise
forbidden in the scripture:
• 1 Cor 14:39- “Covet to
prophesy”
• 1 Cor 14:29-”Submit prophecy
for judging”
• In the Greek New testament,
Prophecy is prophetia
describing the discourse
emanating
• From divine inspiration.
• Bullingers Lexicon says of
prophecy, “Speaking forth
utterance inspired by the spirit
of God, reffering either in the
past,present or the future.
• Prophecy is for the
strengthening of the believers
faith
Closing Words- 2nd Chr 36:16,
2nd Chr 20:20
Senior Pastors new year Message
The word of the Lord came to me,
the spirit of the Lord gave me
understanding and in understanding
and keeping to the precepts
declared in Psalm 16: 2-11 (NLT), you
have the key to living stress free in
2016:
• 1. Recognizing and
declaring His Lordship daily,
recognizing and daily
acknowledging every good
thing in our lives individually
(something we hardly do
consciously) and praising
Him consciously as the
source is a necessity;
2. In a nation where the depth
of unrighteousness, greed and
spoiling of people is normal
reality, make a difference:
What will be your mirror each
day of 2016, the word or the
world? From where is your
sufficiency, work or the
word?
• Psalm 81:12-16 (NLT)
• See why people will be
troubled, not making a
difference and following even
if only by careless
confession, vain gods and
their followers
• Daily acknowledge, confess
who your source is and declare
the good intentions of the Lord
our God in everything He puts
across our ways. Daily
presence with Him in chosen
solitude is the key to good
health and stress free living
because He will guide as you
constantly yearn for and keep in
His presence.
• Beloved 2016 is a year of rest
for all who love the Lord and
will follow His guidance as
expressed in this scripture of
note.
• Shalom and a stress free
2016. Amen.
