Geometry Chapter 5 Applying Congruent Triangles and Triangle Inequality
Test will be next Thursday or Friday December 10, 11 on chapter 5
Terms to define and draw a diagram of by using a triangle and marking it correctly
1. Altitude of a triangle1.A The legs of a right triangle are also the altitudes of the traingle
2. Median of triangle
3. Angle bisector of triangle
4. Perpendicular Bisector of triangle
II. Triangle Inequalities
5. Triangle Inequality Theorem- The sum of any two sides of a
triangle is greater than the third side. ( Add two smaller sides must be greater than largest)
6. Given two sides find the range of the third side of triangle: Add and subtract two sides to get
range of third write as an inequality compound two sides are 18 and 11 then range is 7<x<29
7. List sides or angles in order of a scalene triangle: longest side is across from largest angle
Or smallest angle is across (opposite) from shortest side.
8. The perpendicular segment from a point to a line is the shortest segment from the point to
the line. Shortest distance is always a perpendicular segment.
9. The Hinge Theorem- Two triangles- angle of one triangle is greater than angle of 2nd triangle
Then the opposite side of 1st triangle is greater than opposite side of 2nd triangle
10. Converse of Hinge theorem- Use sides to compare the opposite angles in each triangle
III. Right Triangles and the HL method- Prove two right triangles congruent by using HLHypotenuse-Leg method. Only works with a right triangle
