Heart Health
Heart disease is a term used to describe a variety of diseases which can affect a persons heart.
Adult and children alike. Recent figures state heart disease is the number one cause of death
in America and Canada, and in England and Wales. In the U.S one person dies every thirty
four seconds. Alarming statistics. When it comes to heart health, it’s good to know the
facts and stats. That way you are informed to make the right decisions. Being familiar with
the different kind of heart disease’s there are, is a good start.
Coronary Heart Disease
More than four hundred and fifty thousand people die in the US, every year, from coronary
heart disease. Over a hundred thousand in England and Wales. The walls and the arteries of
the heart become hardened and by a build of athermanous plaques. Reducing blood supply
and ultimately can result in an heart, or Angina attack
Cardiomyopathy
Heart Muscle Disease. Many conditions can cause the muscles of the heart to deteriorate:
Alcoholism, existing heart disease, like Coronary or Congenital heart disease. Heart
transplant patients are known to be at risk. Certain genetic disorders can also cause the
disease.
Congenital Heart Disease
Also referred to as a Congenital Heart Defect. Defects of the heart are the number one cause
of death, related to defect, in new born children. Congenital Heart Disease means the heart
has not formed correctly, in some way. Most commonly, this will be the valves or vessels
which are not operating correctly. When one, or several valves are dysfunctional, either the
aortic, mitral, pulmonary or tricuspid valves, it is Valvular Heart Disease. This disease can
be both congenital and acquired. Valves can often be repaired, even replaced.
Heart Failure
Congestive cardiac failure, congestive heart failure, heart failure. All describe a condition
whereby the heart is not pumping blood, sufficiently around the body. It is way too common
in the West, a deadly and disabling condition. A huge problem in the UK and the United
States. Too little exercise, has been directly associated with heart failure. Around ten
percent of Heart Failure patients die every year.
Hypertensive heart disease is responsible for the death of too many people in the western
world. High blood pressure and several other heart diseases can cause
Hypertensive heart disease. Including Coronary heart disease, congestive heart failure, and
irregular heart patterns. Heart health should be high on everyone’s list of concerns. There
are steps which can be taken to help reduce risks. Symptoms can vary, but fatigue, irregular
pulse rate, swollen ankles and shortness of breath, can all be signs. Following a healthy diet
can help. Eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grains and antioxidant rich foods.
Reduce saturated fats, dairy products and salt. Swap fatty meats for Omega 3 rich fish, like
salmon or sardines. Plus, get some exercise!
