Transcript
Environmental Science This course has been developed through a combination of related sciences from both the Physical and the
Biological Sciences that deal with the interaction of various organisms with the natural environment. It is
an interdisciplinary science that relies heavily on the natural sciences. The course draws its concepts
from Metrology, Geology, Biology and Geography.
The objectives of the course are to: promote the understanding of the composition of the earth and its
natural environments; describe and illustrate the effects of human activities that contribute to the
imbalances of the natural environment; discuss issues related to climate change adaptation and mitigation,
such as atmospheric pollution, ozone layer depletion, environmental degradation, depletion of natural
resources etc. where all of which are major issues of national and international concerns.
Other objectives are to provide an understanding and practical applications of the current international
and national efforts, and policies towards protection of the environment to promotion of human welfare
such as: climate change protocols, UNC action plans and protocols, the Kyoto treaty, Copenhagen
outcomes, protection of the ozone-layer, reduction of GHGs and role of green-energy, CFCs and ozone
friendly utilities, and to introduce basics of natural hazards and safety measures.
