Geography
A warm front is defined as the transition zone where a warm air mass is
replacing a cold air mass. Warm fronts generally move from southwest to
northeast and the air behind a warm front is warmer and moister than the air
ahead of it. When a warm front passes through, the air becomes noticeably
warmer and more humid than it was before.

Geography
A tropical cyclone is a rapidly rotating storm system characterized by a lowpressure center, a closed low-level atmospheric circulation, strong winds, and
a spiral arrangement of thunderstorms that produce heavy rain. Depending on
its location and strength, a tropical cyclone is referred to by names such as
hurricane tropical storm, cyclonic storm, tropical depression, and simply
cyclone. Tropical cyclones typically form over large bodies of relatively warm
water. They derive their energy through the evaporation of water from the ocean
surface, which ultimately recompenses into clouds and rain when moist air rises
and cools to saturation. This energy source differs from that of mid-latitude
cyclonic storms, such as nor'easters and European windstorms, which are
fueled primarily by horizontal temperature contrasts. The strong rotating winds
of a tropical cyclone are a result of the conservation of angular momentum
imparted by the Earth's rotation as air flows inwards toward the axis of rotation.
As a result, they rarely form within 5° of the equator

El Niño is a climate cycle in the Pacific Ocean with a global impact on weather
patterns. The cycle begins when warm water in the western tropical Pacific
Ocean shifts eastward along the equator toward the coast of South America.

Consider the following statements about anticyclones:
1. Anticyclones move in the clockwise direction the southern hemisphere.
2. They have a high pressure at the centre.
3. The strongest anticyclones occur over snow-covered portions of Asia
and North America in the winter.

Geography
An anti-cyclone -- also known as a high pressure area -- is a large atmospheric
circulation system with the wind flowing clockwise around it in the Northern
Hemisphere, and counter-clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere.
Anticyclones form from air masses cooling more than their surroundings, which
causes the air to contract slightly making the air denser. Since dense air weighs
more, the weight of the atmosphere overlying a locatiion increases, causing
increased surface air pressure.

Marusthali, (Land of the Dead) sand-dune-covered eastern portion of the Great
Indian (Thar) Desert in western Rajasthan state, northwestern India. It extends
over about 24,000 square miles (62,000 square km), north of the Luni River.
The Malabar coast has got certain distinguishing features in the form of 'Kayals'
(backwaters), which are used for fishing, inland navigation and also due to its
special attraction for tourists. Every year the famous Nehru Trophy Vallamkali
(boat race) is held in PunnamadaKayal in Kerala.

Peninsular rivers rarely form meanders. Which of the following could be a
reason for it?
1. Hard rock surface of peninsular regions
2. Non-alluvial character of plateau
3. High erosional capacity of rivers

Geography
Peninsular Rivers have lower erosional capacity, but because of hard rock
surface in the region and non-alluvial character of plateau, they travel almost
straight and thus do not form meanders.
