General [World] History
Tuesday, 11/11/14

Students will view a news article describing tablets from ancient Assyria.
Notes and discussion: 1. What were the Hittites know for and where did they live? 2. What did the
Hittites make that made them stronger than their neighbors? 3. Who were the Assyrians and where did
they live? 4. Explain Assyrian warfare and how people were treated who did not pay tribute to the
Assyrian king.
Students will use a timeline to correctly place key events from the early Mediterranean period [Exercise
34]. Also, students will complete a reading and comprehension activity where they answer questions
about the second king of the ancient Israelites and his conflict with a Philistine soldier [Exercise 35].
Students will complete the reading study guide, “Assyria Dominates the Fertile Crescent”, Chapter 4,
section 2, where they will learn about Nineveh, the Chaldeans, and Nebuchadnezzar.
Thursday, 11/13/14
As a class we will review for the Chapter 5 Test, “Mediterranean Kingdoms” by making a study guide in
class.
Also, we will review for the Chapter 5 Test by completing the chapter 5 review found on pages 66-67 of
their textbook. This will include a vocabulary review, a chapter quiz, and the use of a timeline.
Monday, 11/17/14
Chapter 5 Test, “Mediterranean Kingdoms”
Students will copy the words to know for Chapter 6, “Early Civilizations of India, China, and the
Americans”, found on page 69.
Students will begin viewing a PowerPoint presentation on ancient India.
Guided reading will begin for the new chapter if time permits.
Wednesday, 11/19/14

Students will view pictures from the ancient Indus Valley Civilization called Mohenjo-Daro.
Notes and discussion: 1. How was the ancient Indus River Valley city of Mohenjo-Daro constructed? 2.
Describe the group of people who attacked Mohenjo-Daro at around 1500 B.C. 3. What where the
different levels in India’s Caste System?
Students will complete the words to know activity [Exercise 38] where they will identify phrases or
words related to early civilizations in India, China, and the Americas. They will also demonstrate their
knowledge of these civilizations by completing a reading comprehension check activity [Exercise 39].
Students will complete the reading study guide, “Planned Cities on the Indus”, Chapter 2, section 3,
where students will learn about the challenges people faced while living along the Indus River.

Students will see a video clip of excavations uncovering a Buddhist shrine dating to the sixth century B.C.
Notes and discussion: 1. How did Siddhartha Gautama become the Buddha? 2. What is the Buddhist
believe in nirvana and reincarnation? 3. Who was the ruler of the Maurya Empire and where did
Buddhism spread?
Students will use a chart to answer questions about the ancient civilizations in the Indus River Valley, the
Huang He Valley, and ancient America using the building skills activity [Exercise 41]. Also, students will
use information in another chart to write a paragraph about whether Ancient China and India traded
and/or exchanged information [Exercise 42].
Students will complete the reading study guide, “River Dynasties in China”, Chapter 2, section 4, where
students will learn the terms Mandate of Heaven, dynastic cycle, and feudalism.
