Release Notes: MNS-BB Release 1.3 (02/22/05)
Software (general)
The MNS-BB software is modular software. The software modules (or applications) are segmented according to the
type of functionality they provide. Each module has specific tasks to provide and clearly defined interfaces with other
modules based on the overall system/functional requirements.
Download Location
The LE2425A / LEV2525A MNS-BB Release 1.3 is available on the Black Box FTP site.

New Modules and Features (Since Rel 1.2)
 SNMPv3
Simple Network Management Protocol Version 3 (SNMPv3) is an interoperable standards-based
protocol for network management. SNMPv3 provides secure access to devices by a combination of
authenticating and encrypting packets over the network.
 SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol)
SMTP is used to send email alerts whenever there is an Event or an SNMP trap generated inside the
switch system.
 Secure Web Management
MNS-BB provides a new embedded HTTP Web agent with this Release. Using industry standard
web browsers, users can configure, view statistics, monitor and manage LE2425A and LEV2525A
Switches. From your browser, use your Switch IP address to access the MNS-BB management
software, which functions as a GUI-based interface. e.g., http://192.168.1.10.
 SSL/TLS
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and Transport Layer Security (TLS) enables the embedded web server
of the switch to handle secure HTTP (HTTPS). While these security features of web management
may be turned off by the user, the default setting for MNS-BB is ON.
 802.1x (Radius Authentication)
The IEEE 802.1x standard, Port Based Network Access Control, defines a mechanism for port-based
network access control that makes use of the physical access characteristics of IEEE 802 LAN
infrastructure. It provides a means of authenticating and authorizing devices attached to LAN ports
that have point-to-point connection characteristics. It also prevents access to that port in cases where
the authentication and authorization fails.
 TACACS+
TACACS+, short for Terminal Access Controller Access Control System, protocol provides access
control for routers, network access servers and other networked computing devices via one or more
centralized servers. TACACS+ provides separate authentication, authorization and accounting
services.
Enhancements (Since Rel 1.2)
 Port Security Enhancement
Now 200 MAC addresses can be learned per port (Was 25 per port) and 500 MAC addresses per
switch.
 VLAN Enhancement
Default VLAN is editable now. Users can edit the VLAN Name and Ports of the Default VLAN.
 Back Pressure and Flow Control
User can enable or disable the Back Pressure and Flow Control per port basis using ‘setport’
command.
 Soft Switching between STP and RSTP
There is no need to reboot the switch while switching from STP to RSTP or vice versa now.
 Serial (Console) Driver Enhancements
Facility to change Console Parameters viz. baud rate, data, parity, stop and flow control with in
MNS-BB (Be careful not to cut yourself off by changing parameters of the port you are on).
 New CLI Commands under ‘ACCESS’ module
remove - removes a specific entry
removeall - removes all entries thus allowing all to access.
 New CLI Commands under ‘Tag VLAN’ module
Two new commands viz. set-port and show-port are available under TAG VLAN in place of setingress, set-egress, show-ingress and show-egress commands. These commands are deprecated and
still available.
 Enhanced Upgrade Command
Upgrade command has now optional parameters for username and password.
 Updated Bitview
New Bitview supports LEV2525A and New features as well.

IGMP fix for Giga.
RSTP: Bridge Priority is editable.
Recorded time-delay fix in Event Log if SNTP is enabled.
Multicast protection for Port VLAN.
SNTP vs. Win2003 Fix.
Port name editing through SNMP client is possible.
Better MAC Address table handling, faster clearing and better reporting to SNMP.
Port VLAN bleeding while rebooting Fix.
SNMPv1 and v3 data is storing separately now.
Active VLANs are editable now.
