path to the Asian markets and a cooling station that allowed the steamships to travel
farther.

5. The role of the Taft commission was to introduce reforms to revamp and improve the
everyday life in the Philippines. Reforms to change the structure and formation of the
local governments were often put into place.
6. The challenges that the U.S military had to overcome in the Spanish-American war
included a limited army that was not very prepared and the questionable performance
of their new ships. Many soldiers were volunteers who were untrained, and the army
did not have enough resources to support all these men. However, the strength of the
navy and the American supplies allowed the U.S to be superior.

American empire by opening technological advancements that allowed the American
products to be less expensive and even have better quality. This allowed Hay to flood
the Chinese markets and ultimately allowed America to have a global stand without

that was ready in any instance. However, Roosevelts military presence in Asia was
much less. This was primarily because the Asian countries were able balance each
other’s power and did not allow another country to become very powerful.

tensions. For example, the policy created debts in Central America that left a longlasting effect on the country such as instability and resentments. Taft’s policy also
