PeriAnesthesia Nursing Certification PANC(C) Mission Statement ANSPAN (Association of Nova Scotia PeriAnesthesia Nurses) is a special interest group representing Perianesthesia nurses, providing opportunities for expanding nurses’ knowledge base, promoting professional growth, and information sharing. ANSPAN facilitates networking with colleagues committed to the specialty. One of 20 certifications available from the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA). Bursary opportunities are available from ANSPAN and NAPAN©. Members meet 4-5 times a year. Meetings begin with an educational element followed by a business component addressing pertinent local issues, updates from our national association NAPAN©, ICPAN, and certification information. A spring Education Day and AGM are held yearly. To see topics from past Education Days, check our website. PeriAnesthesia Nurses Membership The National Association of PeriAnesthesia Nurses of Canada’s “Standards for Practice (2014)” states Membership is available to nurses with an interest in PeriAnesthesia nursing and is renewable on a yearly basis. “PeriAnesthesia nursing practice involves care in the health cycle to identify problems or risks that may result from the administration of sedation/analgesia, anesthetic agents/techniques and/or surgery.” Enrollment includes PeriAnesthesia nurses practice in many types of clinical settings, for example: Pre-Admission units Day Surgery Same-Day Surgical Units Operating Rooms Post-Anesthetic Care Units Labour and Delivery settings Regional/ Epidural/ Spinal Anesthesia treatment areas Special procedure areas including radiology suites Endoscopy Free-standing Surgical Clinics Dental Offices Pain Management Services Automatic membership in the National Association of PeriAnesthesia Nurses of Canada, NAPAN© Automatic membership in ICPAN (International Collaboration of PeriAnaesthesia Nurses) Discounts on Provincial and National Conferences Discounts on Standards for Practice Free certification study guide Notification of upcoming meetings and education sessions Membership forms are available at: http://anspan.weebly.com
