ANSPAN (Association
of Nova Scotia PeriAnesthesia Nurses) is a
special interest group
representing Perianesthesia nurses,
providing opportunities
for expanding nurses’
knowledge base,
promoting professional
growth, and information
sharing. ANSPAN
facilitates networking
with colleagues
committed to the
specialty.
One of 20 certifications available from the
Canadian Nurses Association (CNA).
Bursary opportunities are available from
ANSPAN and NAPAN©.

PeriAnesthesia Nursing,
to share information and
experiences, and to
provide educational
opportunities supporting
professional
development.
Members meet 4-5 times
a year. Meetings begin
with an educational
element followed by a
business component
addressing pertinent local
issues, updates from our
national association
NAPAN©, ICPAN, and
certification information.
A spring Education Day
and AGM are held yearly.

Membership
The National Association of
PeriAnesthesia Nurses of Canada’s
“Standards for Practice (2014)” states
Membership is available to nurses with
an interest in PeriAnesthesia nursing and
is renewable on a yearly basis.
“PeriAnesthesia nursing practice
involves care in the health cycle to
identify problems or risks that may
result from the administration of
sedation/analgesia, anesthetic
agents/techniques and/or surgery.”
