Bruno Berheide is BSc in Oceanography. University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria- ULPGC (Spain) Master on internationalization of SMEs Master in Environmental Pollution Analysis and several courses focused on project management as well as on scientific dissemination. He has been working in scientific projects and international bioprospections in countries belonging to the Africa continent, as Kenya, Senegal, Equatorial Guinea, Sao Tomé & Principe, Cape Verde, Mozambique and other countries. As a Project Managing Director in an SME he also coordinated collaborations with different scientific institutions and CSIC as well as private companies managing international R&D projects Nowadays he manages the Spanish Bank of Algae, a service of the Marine Biotechnology Center and also is technical adviser and Business developer for the National Program of Biotechnology of the Ministry of Science & Technology of Mozambique. The Spanish Bank of Algae (BEA-Banco Español de Algas) is a service of the Marine Biotechnology Center (CBM-Centro de Biotecnología Marina) of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), which objectives are the isolation, identification, characterization, conservation and provisioning of microalgae and cyanobacteria. In addition to these functions, standard in any collection of microorganisms, the CBMBEA/ULPGC aspires to function as a service facilitating the development of a new bioindustrial sector based on the cultivation and application of microalgae. BEA is member of the European Culture Collection Organization (ECCO) since 2001 and of the World Federation of Culture Collection (WFCC) since 2003. BEA is listed in the World Data Centre for Microorganisms (WFCC-MIRCEN) under the registration number 837. The BEA is Accredited as an International Authority for the Deposit of Micro-organisms in accordance with the Treaty of Budapest by the WIPO. This accreditation confers on the BEA the deposit of algae for the purposes of recognition of industrial property before the World Intellectual Property Office and the Spanish Patents and Brands Office. BEA holds strains from tropical and subtropical areas, in particular of the MACARONESIAN Region.
