PROCEDURE FOR USAGE OF PERSONAL ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT KEPT AT
KEELE MEDICAL SCHOOL, DAVID WEATHERALL BUILDING
This policy covers the use of personal electrical equipment that was not purchased by the
School.
As a general rule all electrical equipment used in the Keele Medical School should have
been purchased by the School and maintained and PAT tested as appropriate.
Use of personal equipment is not encouraged as the School aims to provide staff with all the
essential equipment to carry out their role and refectory requirements. Additional equipment
goes against the energy efficiency aims of both the School and University.
It is however accepted that in exceptional circumstances staff may apply to bring in their own
equipment, this includes personal coffee machines, kettles etc. In these instances the
equipment must be registered and PAT tested along with all other School equipment.
As with all items any personal equipment should be used in a safe manner at all times and
should not compromise the School staff or building in any way. For example any equipment
that emits steam should not be placed in a position where it could cause personal harm or
activate the School fire alarm system.
All personal equipment must be registered, in the first instance, with Reception.
If any equipment fails the PAT test the owner will be asked to remove the item from the
School with immediate effect.
