Job Title: Research & Development Manager
Reporting To: Chief Operating Officer
Job Description:
Design & develop current and new innovative products in line with Motive Offshore
product line.
Key Responsibilities:
HR




Manage staff working on research and development projects to design and
develop innovative products, including providing support for new designs.
Prepare projects in Time, Budget and Specifications ensuring designs meet and
exceed product specifications, regulatory requirements, and international safety
standards such as QA ISO 9001-2008.
Report on weekly basis about status of the works, progress made last week, time
till completion
Advise team about essentials for the department and report on issues in the
department
Sales


Liaise with external clients when applicable to ensure bespoke products are
designed and constructed to their specific requirements within time and budget
Maintain professional relationships with external clients to ensure good
workmanship by the company
Finance



Ensure that any work adheres to the given specification and within the agreed
budget
Liaise with the finance team to ensure that products are accurately budgeted so
that they can then be priced correctly and competitively when they enter the
market
Liaise and assure that financial specification with suppliers will be followed as
agreed where required
Operations


Write technical protocols/reports and other design control documentation in
support of regulatory submissions and to oversee development of new products
for the (offshore) market from contract (PO) via basic engineering drawing,
detailed engineering and manufacturing drawing through to fabrication, precommissioning, commissioning, start-up and hand-over product on time and
within budget as per agreed specifications (plus variation orders)

Prepare or modify drawings, specifications, and monitor work for compliance to
applicable codes and accepted engineering practices, for both client and staff use
Complete projects (including product enhancements) in a manner consistent with
corporate objectives and to actively participate in determining day-to-day tasks
writing progress reports to keep the management team updated on progress
Maintain a comprehensive & accurate records, documenting of concepts,
designs, drawings, & processes
Maintain current knowledge of competitive technologies
Maintain current knowledge of process and design safety standards and provide
engineering & technical support of products introduced into both the domestic &
international markets
Contribute to the intellectual property position of the company via invention &
patent disclosures

Provide support in the resolution of product complaints &/or safety issues
Ensure that products adhere to regulatory requirements and by Scottish Law
Follow the processes by following the agreed procedures
Conduct testing utilizing appropriate methodology & other experimental design
tools and generate accurate & thorough test protocols & reports


Provide input to Marketing & PR department for promoting new products
Protect at all times the good name of the organisation and listen to the market
for comments about Motive Offshore and report serious issues

Qualifications:









Background in Engineering and Design: a degree in engineering
Knowledge of QA ISO 9001-2008, ISO 18001 and ISO 14001
Good Interpersonal Skills and communications
Ability to manage others: team builder
Good planning and implementation skills.
Project management experience preferred
Highly motivated hands-on engineer with a proven record of meeting timelines
and goal
Must possess strong analytical & problem solving skills
Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint
