The Work, Stress and Health Program The Work, Stress and Health (WSH) Program at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) provides comprehensive psychiatric and psychological assessment, treatment and disability management services for individuals referred by third-party payers. We partner with organizations interested in promoting health and recovery for their employees or members from work-related injury and illness. The mission of the WSH Program is to help reduce the emotional, social and economic costs associated with mental health problems in the workplace. We are committed to a holistic approach that helps your employees or members transform their lives and recover in ways that are culturally, religiously and spiritually sensitive. Programs can be developed for individuals from remote geographical regions with focused treatment goals. Services include: Our staff The WSH staff is made up of psychiatrists, psychologists and occupational therapists who have extensive experience in providing evidencebased assessment and treatment of workplace mental health and addiction issues. The interdisciplinary team works to facilitate improved function and recovery of your employee or member as required, with the goal of safe return to work. The people we treat We provide assessment and treatment services to people referred by employers, insurers, professional licensing and regulatory boards and agencies, physician health programs and employee assistance programs. We specialize in working with individuals affected by mood and anxiety disorders and disruptive behaviours as well as substance and behavioural addictions. ■■ comprehensive psychiatric and psychological assessments including early intervention services ■■ integrated treatment and disability management services ■■ specialized services for depression. Consultation and training services are also offered and can be customized for group or individuals needs. Comprehensive assessments WSH Program comprehensive assessments provide a clear diagnostic and functional formulation of an individual’s condition, including: ■■ pre-existing and co-existing stressors and/or vulnerabilities ■■ return to work planning and recommendations ■■ implications related to administrative, regulatory and licensure issues, requirements of the organizational work environment as well as compensability and entitlement. More complex psychiatric, pharmacological and functional evaluations, consultations and violence risk assessments are also available. Integrated treatment and disability management services The WSH Program provides integrated multidisciplinary day treatment for people seeking to make major changes in their lives. The focus is on individual or group therapy tailored to the clients’ specific needs while promoting the development of skills that improve functioning in the contexts of work, family and social life. The treatment team includes professionals from psychiatry, psychology, mental health occupational therapy and physical therapy. Committed to an evidence-based approach to treatment, we employ empirically validated treatments with an emphasis on education, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), pharmacological interventions and physical exercise. Specialized services for depression Workplace Depression Clinics provide bestpractice (evidence-based) interdisciplinary treatment including CBT for groups or individuals directly to employees or members of organizations that are paying for enhanced treatment in addition to OHIP-covered services. The program will manage common health linkages between depression and physical illness, provide lifestyle counselling, and screen for substance use when indicated. We can refer to addiction services as well as partner with family physicians for health monitoring to improve outcomes. WSH will foster a research partnership with employers to further the depression research agenda to improve treatment effectiveness as well as prevent relapse and future disability.
