Ch 16 Wave Motion
A wave is a perturbance/disturbance that travels(propagates) in space/time.
Examples: waves on a string, sound waves, EM waves, water waves
Classification of Waves
(i) By their nature:
(a) Mechanical waves, which need 'particles' to oscillate, need a medium to
propagate in; e.g., water, string, sound waves.
(b) Non-mechanical waves, which do not need particle medium; e.g., EM
waves, like light can travel in vacuum.
(ii) by their propagation
