Todd Soisson, Tokio Marine North America Services (TMNAS)
Improve application load testing, streamline QA, accelerate new releases
Lifecycle Management
High-level overview: Using HP, TMNAS
realized the following benefits:
•Leverage its original Unified Functional
Testing (UFT) Proof of Concept to turn a
40-hour manual task into an overnight
unmanned task
•Save more than 1,500 hours of manual
regression testing in 2014 using HP UFT
•Greatly accelerate new software release
times as a result of centralized and
automated testing management and
shorter regression times
•Transform into a world-class shared
services organization serving other Tokio
Marine North America (TMNA) Group
Companies
Company: Headquartered in Bala Cynwyd,
Pa., TMNA Services, LLC. (TMNAS) was
established in 2012 as the shared services

Inc. Group Companies. With more than 400
employees, TMNAS provides value-added
services spanning Legal, Internal Audit,

Business goals: The company aimed to
implement more robust and efficient solutions
for: regression tests; automated performance
testing of core systems and other applications;
and recording and managing the results of
all testing activities. The precursor company
to TMNAS had used freeware software for
regression testing. However, the software
failed to catch all problems and scripts were
difficult to maintain. New fixes tended to break
older functions. Meanwhile, the company
began receiving complaints from field agents
regarding slow performance of another core
system. In addition, load testing case records
and associated metrics were being manually
managed in a spreadsheet. Soissons, leading
the newly formed Quality Services team,
recommended solutions leveraging his
considerable past experience and success with
HP integrated software testing tools.
HP Software implemented: HP Unified
Functional Testing (UFT); HP Quality Center
(QC) and HP LoadRunner. TMNAS has 10
HP UFT licenses, 90 HP QC licenses, and
approximately 200 virtual users for HP
LoadRunner.
Benefits: After implementing HP UFT, TMNAS
had 100% accurate regression tests available
through a single overnight run, compared to
up to five days per system with manual testing.
HP UFT not only increases testing efficiency,
it also facilitates greater collaboration among
development, testing and operations teams.
Success with HP UFT led TMNAS to adopt
additional HP solutions including HP QC and
HP LoadRunner. HP QC eliminated dependence
on spreadsheets and the manual work of
opening every spreadsheet to compile metrics
across the enterprise. HP LoadRunner makes
it easy to run performance scripts for different
software, benchmark the times, then rerun the
same scripts after each deployment to ensure
the performance of core systems and other
applications.
