YOUTH SPORTS FUND
Application Process
Individual 2015/16
Introduction
The Youth Sports Fund aims to support young people in sport to assist them with their
development and perhaps become a world-class athlete.
This fund will award grants to talented young athletes to help with the costs of training and
competing in their chosen sport. If you are striving to be the best in your sport and live or study in
Hackney, you could be eligible to apply for a Hackney Youth Sports grant. We are looking for
athletes who are committed, motivated and determined to succeed.
Criteria for Funding
Individuals will only be considered for the Youth Sport Fund if:
1. You are a permanent resident within the borough of Hackney, OR attend a school or
College on a full or part-time basis in Hackney.
2. The sport in which you are participating is recognised by Sport England.

3. You are an able bodied or disabled competitor, aged 9-23.
4. In exceptional circumstances, applications may be considered if you are over 23 or under
9, meet the application criteria but are not receiving any other funding support.
5. You are able to provide evidence of your current level of attainment / ranking.
6. Your application is supported by the relevant National Governing Body or equivalent.
7. You are not in receipt of a current National Lottery Sports Fund or TASS scholarship or
TASS 2012 grant.
8. Where applicable you are required to be available to represent the London Borough of
Hackney at the London Youth Games and any other significant borough representative
event.
Guidelines for Applicants
1. Awards will be made between £50 and £500.
2. Individuals can only receive one Youth Sport Grant per calendar year from the closing
date of successful application.
3. Applications cannot be made in retrospect (including 6 weeks past application closing
date). Any expenditure already made will not be considered as part of the application.
4. Awards are made towards the costs of a specific competition, coaching course,
development camp or other similar event which can be shown to significantly assist the
applicant’s development in their chosen sport. It may cover: equipment, travel,
accommodation, competition fees, specialist coaching/support fees, other similar
expenditure.
5. Awards will not be made to cover annual/quarterly club fees.
6. Applicants must attach current proof of permanent residency or attending a
school/college with Hackney. (Please refer to documents accepted section)
7. Applicants applying for Gold award must provide a supporting letter (on headed paper)
from the participating sports governing body confirming your level and participation.
8. Applicants applying for Silver award must provide a supporting letter (on headed paper)
from the participating sports governing body or club team confirming your level and
participation.
9. If an application is a second or subsequent application it will need to show a significant
progression/sustainability since the previous award(s).

11. Intended expenditure must be evidenced with in application e.g. web link of intended
purchase or a confirmation letter.
12. There may be a high demand for this grant. This means that if an application meets the
criteria it does not always guarantee that an award will be granted.
13. If applying for travel mileage and fuel costs, expenditure should be based upon 45p per
mile for cars and vans, 24p per mile for motorcycles and 20p per mile for bicycles.
Terms and conditions
1. The award or grant shall be used only for the purpose specified.
2. If the event, course or activity for which the grant is given is changed or altered, cancelled
or postponed or you incur a personal injury preventing your continued participation, the
recipient shall notify the London Borough of Hackney immediately and the award may be
reconsidered.
3. Individuals receiving grants will be required to acknowledge the support of the London
Borough of Hackney by using “supported by The London Borough of Hackney” on
publicity materials.
4. A summary report must be completed and submitted after the event for which funding has
been given, and within deadline set from receipt of the grant.
5. The London Borough of Hackney reserves the right to request proof of expenditure
relating to any grants awarded.
6. The London Borough of Hackney reserves the right to use your details in Council/ service
promotions and publicity.
7. Applications submitted later than the closing date, will be included with in the next round
of funding where applicable.

2. The 2015/16 application closing dates are at 4pm on the following dates:

Thursday 1st October 2015
Monday 1st February 2016
3. All applications will be assessed by our Grants Panel. All applicants will be notified in
writing of the outcome within 6 weeks of the application closing date.
4. Payments will be made within 3 months of the Panel’s decision to make an award.

If applying for the fund as a permanent resident of Hackney, proof of one of the
documents is required. If applying through attending school/college in the
borough you are required to produce a supporting letter from your place of study.
