Real World Genetics Project
Due Date: January 27/28 Last Call: January 30/31
My Topic:
Team DNA,
After scanning your DNA and determining the source of your superior intelligence, you have been chosen to
research a real world genetics issue. Your audience will be family, friends, classmates and the public a large
Your job is to inform them of your topic in a way that the layperson can understand.
After choosing a topic choose one of the following options to complete your project.
1. An informative newsletter (front and back of page)
or
2. A 3-fold brochure or pamphlet such as those you see in the nurse’s office
Your newsletter or brochure, should include the following: (Bold is for Disorder AND Technology.)
1. Title of the Topic (scientific and layman’s term if there are both)
2. Define
3. Describe in words and diagrams
4. How well known is it? History?
5. Describe the symptoms of this disorder? Describe the technology.
6. How is this disorder diagnosed? How is the technology used in the real world?
7. Can this disorder be treated? If so, how? Does this technology treat or diagnose diseases? If so, How?
8. Include graphics, photos, illustrations, etc.
9. Include an address for a good website that contains extra information
10. 3 or more sources cited - No, Wikipedia cannot be used!
You will need to be prepared to present your information to the class in a brief (1-3 minute presentation) and
answer some general questions about your disorder. (**HINT, see above questions)
